Went to Clos de LA oyster bar last night. It's a pop up in Vendome café. Was really good and oysters are only part of the menu.

It was a poutine place before but definitely not the same owners. I'm not sure what was there earlier.

Keep your expectations low, I can't imagine the menu is all that spectacular with everything made from crickets.

I was looking at the reviews the other week and it looks like it might have dropped significantly recently. It has been a long time since I was there and based on the reviews I saw I am reluctant to go back.

We’ve never been to either so I thought I’d turn to you guys.

It’s my wife’s birthday this month and we want to have a great steak dinner.

We’ve narrowed it down to Caesar’s and Wellington’s.

Does anyone feel particularly strong in one direction? Is there another place we should consider? We live in the NW but quadrant doesn’t matter.

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't necessarily drive across town for either of those... and I love Caesar's, but would just go to the downtown location.

If you're willing to go that far, you might want to consider Chairmans. I've only been once, and my expectations for a suburban fine dining steakhouse were pretty low, but I was really impressed.

Major Tom is great, awesome cocktails (best martini in town) and the room / view / ambiance feels a little more "special occasion". I also really like Hy's - again, it has that feeling of occasion.

I like Open Range, it's a bit more casual experience and some good meat options. Scalloped potatoes are a must.

Ruth Chris' was also super delicious but the Tower location isn't aging well. I like Caesars downtown just because its like dining in the 70s or feeling like a mafia boss. Asked for Chicago style and it was great. Major Tom's is great for a date but I heard reservations are hard to get now (as hard as Dorsia?).

Another good steak option is Buchanan's. Probably not at the same level as Caesar's or Hy's but still very good.

Got around to trying the Burger Mechanic. I thought it was fantastic. Fries were decent, but the holy beef burger was just awesome. Juicy and crunchy with the onion rings blended perfectly with the cheese

Will definitely be back..

This place is fire but it's not fast food. They take their time so be prepared to sit in for awhile. Just took my co-workers and half of them could not finish because of the portion sizes. The chicken burger was made with the same beer batter style as the fish and chips which I've never seen before and it was a gigantic chicken breast. They gave us free dessert at the end as well. Saw someone order the fish and chips and the portion was huge as well.

The way fast food is these days, I wouldn't put it that far behind in prep time, but did anyone say it was fast food? (realize that could sound snarky in text, but genuinely asking).

I was about 10 minutes for my order, which is fine. Agreed on portion sizes. The double patty burger is almost a meal itself. I also got lucky as I normally don't like onion rings in burgers, so I asked if it could be on the side. She said "I mean it's only like one or two onion rings".

But then they ended up giving me the two rings in the burger PLUS a full order of Onion rings on the side, plus the fries that I paid for on the side.

I was able to eat the burger and maybe 6 fries, then the remaining fries plus the onion rings made literally a full meal for me the next day while drinking, lol.

I'll definitely be back, really loved the burger. I may just order that by itself this time, though.

And burgers

Their burgers are good, and can be ordered rare or medium rare
