Ha! I seem to recall they tried buying that house back in the day. I worked there back then, worked plenty of night shifts during Stampede, though nothing to crazy happened when I was there.

If it wasn't for the panscramblers, I'd never be back. No one else in town makes it quite the way they do. Powdered cheese sauce and substituting pan fries for fritters beats out the fancier ones out there

Was just thinking about this when I was in a liquor store/former Humpty's the other day. It was a family tradition to go for breakfast on the weekends there for the first half of my life, and once that ended I never looked back.

Edmonton Tr./McKnight - closed ages ago; 64th Ave NW - Closed; Downtown - closed. 16th Ave (one of their Rocket Robin <?> experiments later rebranded Humpty's) - closed. Those are just the ones we visited.

They're on the way out. It's all but a dead brand.

I think I just drove by a live one in Swift Current (or maybe Moose Jaw?) while off camping last week.

Sounds kind of rough.. though I'm not sure an eating contest would bring on a heart attack

The Burger Mechanic which just opened on McLeod is super delicious. Juicy burgers and awesome fish and chips.

Plus, every time I go in to eat they insist on giving me a free brownie and ice cream for dessert.

Interesting, thanks for the heads-up.

On the topic of burgers, I finally tried the much-hyped Dragon's Lair in Westbrook Mall. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but it was extremely disappointing. The meat was spongey and tasteless, the toppings were ungenerous and the bun was one of those horrendous Delisio (sp?) crap things that I wouldn't feed to my dog (saw the bun package long after the order was placed and paid for)... And speaking of paid for - it was $55 for two "dragon" burgers, a regular poutine and two drinks (including tip, though after the fact, I can't get the price to pencil unless the fountain drink & water bottles are ~$4 each)... Which is absurd considering that's the same price of a high-quality sit down lunch we had the day before.

Has anyone had a better experience that would convince me to give them another try, perhaps with one of their more conventional burgers?

Edit - and the poutine sucked.

I just looked at the Burger Quest review and it sounds like my disappointment matched theirs... No second chances. https://theyyscene.com/2018/09/12/kn...l-meaty-beast/

It seems like the old cookie cutter schwarma place that was there reopened as this burger mechanic and fish & chips place.

I saw some social media posts and it might be the same owners/staff and they say their burger meat is halal which is nice because I can actually take a Muslim co-worker who always gets left out at our burger lunches.
