That will go down as one of the worst calls in professional sports history. That poor kid made such a good play to get to first too

What a gutsy (yet terrible) call by the umpire. Especially with that being the last out and the game in Detroit. Once he sees the replay, he will feel like the biggest jerk.

That was storybook, especially with the catch on the first out. All for not

The guy was out by 2 feet. That umpire should get fired.

Seriously, I hope MLB overturns that call, and calls the runner out and awards the guy a perfect game. This is definitely going to cause instant replay to come in for all games from now on.

I'm a bleeding heart nice person so I know that Joyce is one of the best umpires in the game and in this case he just missed one. But what a time to do it. I'm pretty sure he's seen the replay and feels like crap about it.

This thing will get 30000X public media attention and immediate instant replay might be the end result if MLB panics about public relations.

It was the one perfect game this year I was able to watch the end of too. This should dominate the sports networks for a few days.

As a massive Tigers fan this stings. Imagine a second perfect game within a week. Ugh such a brutal call, I dont even see how it was close in the umps eyes. I wonder if something like this pushes MLB closer to instituting instant replay.

Some stuff coming out from Detroit

Right after the game:

Joyce said he didn't know if he would try to talk to Galarraga. "I don't know what to do. I just cost that kid a perfect game."

"Biggest call of my career, and I kicked the **** out of it."

---

Then they meet.

Jim Joyce apologizes to Galarraga, Galarraga accepts, they hug. Class by Joyce, incredible class by the kid.

Quotes:

"That wasn't a call. That was a history call. And I missed it from here to this wall."

"I don't blame the Tigers for anything that was said. I don't blame one person a bit."

"If I were Galarraga, I would have been the first one in my face, and he didn't say a word to me."

Although he totally blew the call those are some pretty candid and classy words from Joyce. He screwed up, he admitted it and felt terrible about it. He sounds pretty upset about the whole thing.

yeah

No umpire wants to miss that call. You can't fault the guy in that spot beyond just making a bad call which happens 15 times a day. It would have been just as bad had the runner been safe and he called him out. Then you have a tainted perfect game. You can't make any call based on context. You just have to call it like you see it.

Complete class by both Armando Galarraga and Jim Joyce. Joyce admitting he made a mistake, that he blew the call and apologizing takes a lot of balls. Galarraga then turning around and saying nobody's perfect (unclear if the pun was intended or not) show's class on his behalf.

This situation could have been a lot worse, it will be Selig that will take the flack for this.

I say bring in replay, as this was just fataing horseshingaurd!
