Ah good!
You are as baffled as I am!
I do think Northcutt was really good with them once he got there, but he is no spring chicken and he's never really been a huge deep threat...and you would know better than anyone from his days with the Wildcats. I would think Northcutt would be preferable to Porter. Yeah, Porter 'should' be able to stretch the field, but as you said he really hasn't done much but complain for the last few seasons.
I guess in Williamson you have a guy who is at least young enough that he could turn it around.
What does this mean for Matt Jones who, frankly, started looking pretty damn good at the end of this year.
Man, I hate the Jags.

Great signing no matter what the price (you know what I mean). Faneca is one of the best guards to play the game in the last 30 years.

Completely baffled.
Porter had a solid year in about 2004-05. He signed a big extension the year that Moss was brought in but never materialized as anything. Obviously he suffered under the horrible years of the Raiders since 2002 (including a year long benching from Art Shell), but I wouldnt put too much stock in him.
Williamson is young and was highly touted (7th overall), so he could turn it around, but I never thought he would be much more than a return guy after last season.
Jones' maturation has been painfully slow. As a college QB you figured his ability to concentrate and master WR duties would have come along better than it had. He always seemed, awkward and lost out there... his first couple seasons he reminded me of a pubescent male... But I agree with you, last season he started to hit a turning point and improved quite a bit.
I guess the Jags could be looking at Porter and Williamson as deeper threats, Northcut as the primary receiver and using Jones as a possession/slot receiver - similar to Stokley, Welker, or Gonzalez.

Maybe Porter will flourish once he gets out of Oakland. A lot of calls today to Sirius NFL Radio from Raider fans. Sounds like the majority of Raider Nation has lost hope of any success untill Davis buys the farm.

Porter could, theoretically, have a good year. He's a big receiver with decent hands but has been completely unmotivated for at least 3 seasons. That's a lot of rust. But right now, Raider-ville is a death trap for players.
As for Raider fans losing hope. Im on the cusp. Davis used to be funny - the old crotchety owner who did things his own way, went against the norm and fueded with the NFL - but that was fine because the Raiders were successful, or at least appeared to have a plan.
Someone needs to unplug his cryogenic freezer before the draft... I wouldnt be surprised if he drafted another QB to create competition or something silly.

I'm sure that has something to do with it, but I remember hating them before that too. That was a dark day though, no question.
Got revenge big time the next year though. Absolutely throttled them in the playoffs en route to that first Super Bowl win.
I think the team colors make me ill, maybe that's it!

Denver released Javon Walker today along with LB Ian Gold. Gold will be a nice addition for some team. I'm not sure Walker's knee will allow him to be the dynamic receiver he once was. He sure missed a lot of time this past season with what was supposedly an unrelated injury to the same knee. I don't buy it. Sealed his fate with his cry baby show in the locker room on clean out day. Like I said in about week 2 last year....I'm not sure that Brandon Marshall isn't the star WR of the two.
Gold is surprising actually. Will make the draft even more interesting for me....unless they are looking at a free agent. I'm so out of touch with their cap situation I don't even know how these two moves impact it or how much they have to work with.

The Shaun Rogers to Cincy trade has reportedly fallen through, and Rogers has now been traded to the Cleveland Browns. Why would Cleveland sign both Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers, don't they run a 3-4?
I don't like this, as that puts Cincy back in the mix for a DT. They pick one spot ahead of the Saints at #9, and I really want Ellis or Dorsey(if they even last that long).

Isaac Bruce signs with the 49ers. A good veteran target for Smith... but it's going to be weird to see Bruce in a 9ers uniform... like Brown in a Bucs uniform or Rice with the Seahawks.

Many Analysts calling Miami the winners of day 1.
I would agree, because when you're 1-15 and you manage to sign some free agents you are a winner.
I'm like this front four it could be deadly. Tuna putting a stamp on the team early.
Only time will tell.
Jason Taylor (unless he's traded, I'm hearing rumours about 2 picks from Green Bay for JT)
Jason Ferguson
Randy Starks
Chris Long (possibly the 1st overall pick)

I wonder if the Packers aren't having a long look at Moss.
From all reports, Favre is closer to retiring this year than last, but adding a wide out like Moss may be what's needed to convince him to take one more crack at things.
Obviously they are already a very good team, but with a WR core of Driver, Moss and Jennings with inside receivers like Lee and Jones, they may be able to take the offense to another level.
Another team that should look at Moss is the Browns. With Anderson now in place for 3 years and the young Edwards looking like a superstar in the making, Moss could find himself seeing one on one coverage a whole bunch.

I think Moss in Green Bay would be fantastic. Fans wouldnt have accepted him before last year because of his history with the team and his attitude while in Oakland. But after being a model citizen and a record setting receiver in New England and his potential to take the Packers over the top in the NFC, Im sure Packer fans could swallow this pill.
But how would the deal get done? I assume a condition for Moss would be to have the veteran QB presence in Farve like he had with Brady in NE. But if Farve needs to be there for Moss to come, but a factor for Farve not to retire would be if the Packers signed Moss, who commits first? The only way I can see this happening is if the two players talked.
As for Moss in Cleveland... I would be shocked. That franchise is a year removed from being one of the laughing stocks of the NFL. Derek Anderson was great last year, but I cant see Moss being too thrilled about returning to a franchise that doesnt have a perennial pro-bowler taking the snaps.
I've read that Denver would be interested. But would Moss go to Denver with Cutler? Would Mile High accept Moss?

John Lynch decides to play one more year, and I would imagine the contract is at a reduced price.

I would. I've always thought he got a bit of a bad ride from the media. I remember watching Montana beat his Marshall team in the NCAA-AA national championship game in the early 90's and being completely amazed at what he was doing on the field. Since that day, I've kind of been a fan.
I think the Broncos offense is pretty close, but there may be better choices for him. One thing is certain, with Walker gone the Broncos need another receiver.

Green Bay with Moss and Jason Taylor. Aguably some of the top offensive and defensive players.
Green Bay would probably become the favorites in the NFC.

Josh Brown moves from my Seahakws to the hated Rams.
Seattle really wanted to keep him, Brown wanted to move to the midwest. So much so that he moved for the same $ SEA offered.
A good pickup for the Rams, especially playing indoors on turf, and leaves a big gap for SEA to fill.
Only other thing on SEA's FA plate it appears is getting a TE. They need that safety valve for Hasslebeck when he gets over excited in the pocket (which is still far too often for a "veteran" qb), and last year they didn't have it/the one they had didn't click.

For Roy Williams?
The Lions had better not make that move that is a horrible trade.
Not sure what to say about the Rogers deal. He is a great player, when he plays, but when he can only go 50% of the plays and only tries on about 50% of those plays its hard to keep him around.
Hard to like any move the Lions make when it is Matt Millen making the deals. I will just assume that if Millen liked the deal it was the wrong move to make.

Does anyone know of a site where we can find the salary caps of each team for next season? I'm really wanting to see what some teams are at in terms of the $117 M cap. Thanks in advance.
