Curious as to what the canuck boards are saying about this move. Honestly, it's really to early say if this is a terrible move or not. Sure, Sven was a first rounder But he was a bust, plain and simple. We have a chance to redeem these three picks now for integral parts of our future.

Why are people so bent that he got traded to a divisional rival? Who cares. Would you rather have him traded out east for a 3rd, or traded to a rival for a 2nd? I know what I'd rather have. The Flames have to do what is best for themselves and not be concerned with if he helps another rival or not. I know it doesn't happen often, but I'd like to see some examples or the Flames trading within our division and it biting us in the ass. Sven certainly hasn't shown the ability to bite any other team in the ass when given the chance.
As others have said, the writing was on the wall with his waiver status next season and our depth on the wing. He'd have to be a lock to make the team next season for him to be beneficial to us. Do any of us see him as a lock for next season? I certainly don't. Should he be gifted that spot? I don't think so.

Value diminishes.
Baertschi was either going to make the team between now and October, or we'd lose him for nothing. We've also had a bunch of other winger prospects pass him, so the writing was on the wall.
|
I don't get this example.
This was a bad trade for Toronto. As a rebuilding team, maybe Toronto should have given Colborne ice time?

For the record, seems like Canucks fans are sour about giving up that 2nd round pick.
Maybe we're way higher on Sven than other fans around the league.

On one side I'm happy we traded him. We're never winning a cup with Gaudreau and Baertschi as our top 6 and other guys were starting to push past him. So happy to get something and let him go elsewhere.
On the other side I'd like more than a draft pick in freaking 2017. A 2015 2nd would be fine. That's a good chip.

Lolol.
So Sven couldn't crack the Flames lineup. That speaks for itself.
No other GM thought he was worth more than a 2nd.
What's the big deal?
Why are people crying that he went to Vancouver. BFD.

My understanding is it's a 2015 second round pick coming back from Vancouver for Baertschi. #Flames

Not surprising. The team and the player were parting ways one way or another, to get anything for him now as opposed to letting him walk or losing him on waivers... it's a no brainer.

I'm happy for Baertschi. He was getting lost in the shuffle here and seemed directionless in the few games he played up here. Yes, he was on a short leash; there was no earned trust.
He'll start in Utica, where some of you might know that Travis Green is the head coach. He was also the head coach for Portland Winterhawks at one point while Baertschi was there. So, if anyone is going to set him straight, it'll be Green.
All in all, I'm fine with the trade. As some said, the writing was on the wall. Good trade for both teams.

I'm ok with this. Baertchi was not progressing at the same rate as some of the other prospects. He tried to put on his best face for the media recently but I don't think he (or his father) is very enamoured with the Flames organization anymore.
New chapters all around. Good luck Sven. Go easy on us in the future.

I'm fine if this is a 2015 Pick. Not so much if it's a 2017 Pick.
