Aside from the screen size being 37% bigger, a few key points are:
- Faster CPU
- Better battery life
- AC wifi capabilities
- More LTE bands

There are also other things that happen with the actual number update. Both 3GS to 4 as well as 4s to 5 brought a bunch of security updates.

While I agree that if you own a 5s there may not be enough justification to upgrade, there are certainly improvements.

Problem is I was given a iPhone 5. I'm more disappointed I can't upgrade until the full 3 years is over. That sucks. Along with Rogers wait times.

Wouldn't you be getting a discount on the plan since you brought your own phone?

Between selling the iPhone 5 and the discount on the plan that might be close to pay for a new one.

He wouldn`t be getting a discount on the plan, as he still has 2 years left on the existing contract. However he could pay the $50 to unlock the phone, sell the iPhone 5 for $300 (guessing as to the value), and then be $250 up on buying a new phone. So it would only cost him $500 instead of $750.

That`s the thing- phones are worth more than the $200 you pay up front. Having 2 years left on an iPhone 5 contract means he either got a discount to buy it right before the 5s came out; and/or knew the 5s was coming out soon and needed to have the phone now.

Don't get me wrong, I bought my 3GS about a month before the 4 came out. We also got one for my wife within days of the 4 coming out. However we did that because the super cheap plan we got was coming to an end; before the 4 was to come out.

He said he was given the iPhone 5 not that he got it from Rogers so that's why I thought he'd get the byod discount.

Is anyone finding that their phone is lagging due to an underpowered CPU, or running out of battery life?

I don't have an iPhone, so maybe those are problems for iPhones or iOS, but neither are a problem for me.

I know when I went from my 3GS to my 5 I hadn't been finding the CPU lagging. Then when I got used to the speed of the 5 I really noticed it when setting up the 3GS for my son.

As for battery, I use my phone a lot throughout the day, so any extra battery would be welcome. I wouldn't think that is an 'iPhone issue."

4 million presold in the first 24 hours, double what the 5 did. The iPhone 4 had 600,000 presales in the first 24 hours, I can't find numbers for the 4S or 5S/C.

I think this is easily the most profitable for Apple.

5S/C had set the record last year (think it was around 3 million) but that had the benefit of a cheaper alternative in the C.

This year you have the standard, and a more expensive premium device and you still blew the record out of the water.

There's a few benefits.
- Newer processors tend to be more power efficient despite being faster, helping OEMs achieve longer battery life.
- Where games are concerned, developers can push the graphics of their games further because of the increased horsepower.
- And lastly, the OS gets heavier and more resource intensive, making older phones perform like crap. I had a late version of iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 and it was a dog. 6 made it even worse and then I had to give it back when I left my old company.

I look at those numbers though for battery life and I find myself not that impressed by them.

Apple seems to be going in reverse here. With Android 4.4 KitKat Google made optimization a huge priority for their super cheap smartphone initiative (Android One), so the newest versions of Android actually run better on older hardware. Microsoft did this too with Windows 7 and 8, if you have an old PC or laptop that came with Vista it will actually perform better if you upgrade. Yet every new version of iOS seems to get more bloated, I guess Apple really doesn't care though since they know most of their users will simply buy the new version of the phone

Given the new stipulations required to grandfather in old plans, is anyone planning on buying the phone outright and then signing up with Wind?

Looks like Apple killed it with the 6, and the 6 plus is close behind with some minor issues that can be resolved. The camera is "the best I have ever used" says the reviewer.

Not a surprise. For all the chest beating the spec nerds do, Apple again has taken lower pixel density, and lower MP and beat them silly. The great part is that it goes easier on battery life, and pictures can be smaller in size with better result.

There is a reason Apple doesn't try to do everything first. They sit back let the early adopters work out the bugs, and put out a refined product a bit later. I don't mind a bit.

Full disclosure, I am skipping this generation and getting a 6S next year. I really think they are setting this up to murder it next year. I am happy with my 5S and I think it will be worth the wait.

Apple's execution is always on point and I agree that it's wise to hold off on new features, they're smart. It's only hilarious because they, and fanboys, pretend like it hasn't been done before. The 6 is a beautifully executed Nexus 4 from 2012. Less is more.
