Johansson has been more consistant. Backlund or johansson could had gone either way so it is no snub.
Definitely. Wasn't necessarily referring to Backlund as a snub. He was a longshot even with his improved play. I meant more about the team in general. Thanks!
I don't have an issue with Marcus Johansson making the team at all. I get a little annoyed seeing the likes of Marcus Kruger, Carl Hagelin, Jimmie Ericsson (come on..), Jakob Silfverberg, and Gustav Nyquist making it ahead of Backlund however..
Hell..Mikael has arguably outpeformed Patrick Berglund for the better part of two seasons now at both the NHL level, and during the lockout.
Oh well as someone mentioned earlier it appears that he has never been in the good graces of Swedish hockey and will likely always be an under appreciated asset to those in charge over there.
It would have been nice to see him on the international stage given the way he is currently playing.

Any input on how most Swedish fans feel about the roster selection? Seems like they were the biggest team to not have any real significant snubs.
Not a Swedish fan, but I know some are considering both Brodin and especially Hedman snubs. Hedman was reportedly not even on the reserve list.
Hedman currently sits second in points for Swedish defenseman, and while Kronwall's having a solid offense year along with Ekman-Larsson and especially Karlsson they might not need Hedman's offense. But still, Edler's not been good this year, Ericsson, Tallinder, and Oduya it's not like they have super amazing depth.
I'd say, with limited viewing of Hedman this year, that he's probably the second biggest snub behind Hudler.

I love Backlund. Always have and never understood all the hate early this year. Too bad that he didn't make the team, but it's also good for him to take a break and rest up...

I hope canada loses the final tomorrow. You're all a bunch of hypocrites. Sweden is the best junior country these days. Bye not gonna visit this board again.
so hard to keep New Year's Resolutions isn't it?
Anyways still tough for Backlund. with all the media asking him about it and his friends and family hearing about it; a part of him must have had hoped it was true

We're mostly happy. That Ericsson made it and Hedman sits out are the two biggest complaints I've seen, and I'd probably agree with both. I do feel like it's pretty close to the best team we could send, so no huge issues with the coach this time.

I think this is at least partially true. Players who never play on the highest level in Sweden and choose to go the Canadian Junior route tend to get overlooked. The fact that he's playing for a team that barely gets any exposure in Sweden probably doesn't help either.
This is clearly a snub when you look at both players they both appear to be streaky. Backlund at the start of year wasn't given the minutes to be producing. I don't see how Sweden doesn't take the hot hand as of late with Backlund.
Backlund didn't seem to be getting his hopes up too much in his interviews after the game. Pretty much said he didn't expect to be called, but if he was he would go. He's likely ecstatic just to be in the conversation.
He's a young guy, of he continues his upward trend, he will get his chance.

The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
Sucks he didn't get to go, really thought he earned the call with his play lately. Oh well, you would have to think even being in the conversation would be a huge confidence boost for him (not that he really needs it lately).

Damn.........that's disappointing. I love Backlund, he's been one of my fav players on the team since he's come here. Yesterday I was really excited for him and now it really sucks to know that it was just a rumor that didn't come to fruition.
Oh well, 10 pts in 6 games, 29 pts in 56 games (more than a handful he was playing on the fourth line) I really hope he hits 50 points this season. C'mon Backs you can do it!
