I chalk it up to more then one reason. Chicago being tired is one but the Flames played well and never let off the gas pedal. Usually we'd have seen the flames tie it up and sit on the lead Hrudy mentioned we should have (iirc) done that. Flames played well, Hawks being tired isn't the sole reason for that.

I was merely pissed about our luck. That wasn't directed towards anything other than the hockey gods.

that was frustrating. Very, very frustrating. The degree the flames outplayed the opposition was great, but not very rewarding. It was good to see a fight. Why can't we clinch? Why can we not score? what are the keys to our success? i'm totally lost here.

I'd love to be super optimistic, but the mathematics are getting scary. The clip at which you need to win is starting to approach "top tier team" level (if you went with the 10 points in 7 games concept mentioned before, that's way up. In an 82 game season, that's about 120 points). And I'm not sure the Flames are going to be a top tier team.
I'll cheer the for the Flames, but I think we have to start being wary of how good the Flames need to be statistically to make the playoffs.

Flames were 58% in the dot tonight as a team.
Now 14th in face offs for the year at 50.5%
Hopefully they keep improving.

The makeup of the team is flawed and as others have mentioned until we stop trying to set Iggy up for the one timer and start taking shots, we will continue to experience similar results.

Iginla had a good night, he did everything out there and was all over the ice. Great passes. He's going to be Iginla quicker this year.
. Loved the goal where he was at the net. He's still a force. makes everyone around him look better and get bigger contracts.

Pretty well said, i'm sure the players are frustrated enough at their missed opportunities. What more could he really say?

If you look at my last post I've stated that I've been impressed with their effort all season and tonight is no different but the Hawks did nothing in that 3rd period but hang on which is why the Flames were allowed to take it to them. I simply think if the Hawks were fresh tonight we wouldn't have seen all those offensive opportunities in the game overall.
Remember everyone was saying the same good things about the shootout loss to the Canucks and three games later nothing really has changed as far as winning goes.

Slow starts isn't meant to be an excuse. It's just a description of a career pattern. The player isn't any less responsible for those games.
Not to take anything away from Emery, but usually in these types of games I feel like that the goalie needs to get a lot of help from the opposing team to do it. I think "running into a hot goalie" is a poor excuse for lack of finish in most cases.

This team really needs a guy like Iginla to go on a tear as much as Glencross and Hudler have played well you can't count on players like this to take you to the playoffs on their backs.
|
Exactly if your most dangerous scoring threats are a 35 year old player, then Glencross, Hudler, and Cammalleri you aren't going to be going twelve rounds with other playoff bound teams. You just don't have enough front line talent.
With that said, if Bouwmeester can emerge again as a legit threat off the rush then maybe you have a stew goin.

Cervenka needs to move back to centre full time, stop this non-sense of Tanguay up there. I'd rather see Stajan there and Csmmy with with him and Hudler

Pretty obvious this team won't make the playoffs now but that was a fun game to watch. If they play and lose that way to the no 1 pick, I'll be entertained and encouraged about an orderly rebuild.
J Bo looks to flourish Hartley's system and the usual Cal Puck whipping boys of J Bo, Stajan and Butler played well tonight.

Other than that post tonite, Cammy was kind of invisibile out there compared to his other 2 line mates. He really needs to wake the eff up, especially if Rene Bork is outplaying you! hahaha

I agree.
Tanguay Stajan Iginla
Cammy Cervenka Hudler
The real chemistry is between Cervenka and Hudler anyways.

Looks like Bouwmeester has been given the green light to play more like he did in the Eastern Conference and pinch when he sees fit. Kind of feel he was a bit muzzled under Brent. His play the last few games has been encouraging.

He could say he's sorry he put the Cervenka line out in the last 34 seconds of the game.
