I honestly wonder if the Flames have something lined up with Vegas. I feel like Shinkaruk will be a Golden Knight some way or the other by this evening, but possibly not by direct selection.

Apparently Vancouver is offering some sort of pick bundle to select anyone of their available players without complaining.

There are rumblings that Vegas may take Gaunce and not qualify him, so that he becomes UFA.

That would essentially be selecting the None of the Above option when they chose from Vancouver's roster.

McPhee is Jerry Seinfeld and Vancouver's roster is a Ke$ha hug.

That is quite funny. So take an unknown, younger prospect and put them on the farm from the Canucks...maybe? I honestly have no idea, those players that are available are terrible.

Can they do that? Do they not have to qualify the RFA's they select?

Alzner and Weal heading to UFA, so we can cross them off the list of Vegas picks from the Capitals and Flyers.
Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Agent JP Barry says it was interesting to chat with Vegas, but clients Karl Alzner and Jordan Weal will wait and speak to more teams, too

Wouldn't mind the Flames wheeling Weal.

What is the appeal of Weal (I have seen his name a number of times)? Smallish, 25 and has barely cracked an NHL lineup.

Fast and skilled. Right shot. Finished strong last season.
He might be the next Vey or he might be the next Marchessault. Worth a gamble IMO. Unless the Flames have bigger plans.

Why would VGK have to qualify an RFA when it remains merely optional for every NHL team? This is how Joe Colbourne ended up playing for the Colorado Avalanche this season.

I'd like to see Alzner with the Flames. Good shut down guy, not a ton of points. Could probably be had for cheaper than Stone.

I highly doubt that.
Alzner's seems primed to be one of the UFAs that gets a major payday but doesn't live up to expectations, I would stay away from him unless he's coming cheap and there's no reason to believe he is.

It's misleading to say he has barely cracked an NHL lineup. He's a classic case of smaller guys being evaluated on a different scale from guys who are a few inches taller and much worse at hockey. It's not as if he's some late bloomer here:
In 2010 as a 17 year old, Weal had his first 100 point season in Junior
In 2014 as a 21 year old, Weal was already a PPG in the AHL. Never played a game for L.A. though.
In 2015 as a 22 year old, Weal was by far the best player on the Calder Cup winning team in the AHL. Was over a PPG in the playoffs. Never played a game for L.A. though.
In 2016 as a 23 year old (his first year eligible for waivers), L.A. did not want to lose Weal to waivers, even though he didn't fit Sutter/L.A.'s style of play at all. It's not as if Gaudreau would have fit so well on that Kings team, they play one way which is grind you down with size.
Hextall, who was L.A.'s AGM when Weal was drafted, had the kid included in that LeCavalier trade because he obviously believed in this kid's upside.
Finally, this year, although he was waived out of camp and no one picked him up ( he was the one guy I wanted off preseason waivers) he put up 8 goals in 23 games in the NHL when he was finally given a chance.
He's a strong two-way player, his hockey sense is elite, his skill level is high, he has produced at every level he has played, he can skate, and he's a right-handed shot. He's a battler, too. He was just drafted by the wrong team and it ended up getting him to free agency two years early.
