I find it interesting that Sestito wasn't cut much earlier

The Flames should take Jordan Weal. He is an upgrade on Linden Vey.

I hadn't realized Brooks Laich's game had fallen so far.

I would say you are splitting hairs here but then I realized that you'll undoubtedly provide a slewof data to contradict that, much like like Bollig v Hathaway.

Is there really much of difference? To me they are both AHL filler guys that will never move the needle except in the AHL.

Weal single handedly carried the Monarchs' offense en route to the Calder Cup two years ago as a 22YO. He is a legitimate talent who never got a fair shake in L.A. because they only tried him at 4th line center where Sutter was more comfortable playing a vet. I have watched him play a little and he strikes me as a kid ripe for a shift to top 6 RW on a faster, less grind oriented team.

Vey on the other hand, while he did put up similar "stats" in the AHL, was always a passenger at the AHL level and has a much bigger NHL sample size to be written off as what he really is.

Regarding Weal, believe his name came up when we were talking about taking on Mike Richards contract. Will try to track it down.

Here it is

Weal is 24, undersized and has zero goals in 14 NHL games. If they didn't claim Frk, I can't see why they would want Weal.

Yup Friedman said Weal was likely one of the prosepcts the Flames or Oilers were getting if they took Mike Richards at the 2015 draft:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/3...ds-settlement/

Quote:
1. Richards’ next court date is Dec. 8, so his future remains unclear. But he is an unrestricted free agent, and there is interest. He doesn’t turn 31 until February and it was his contract — not his play — that prevented other clubs from taking him. It’s believed the Kings were offering two or three prospects (Jordan Weal likely among them) to the Calgary Flames and/or Edmonton Oilers as incentive to acquire him before the arrest. Richards will have suitors should the time come.
