Again, Game Demo Vs. DLC argument.

People also seem to dismiss replaying a game, but whatever.

Invasive DRM is anti-Gamer. Providing a product that gives the gamer the choice between paying to play something, or not playing it at all is not anti-gamer.

Would I pay 30 dollars to see a movie? Pretty sure I already spend like 22 bucks on IMAX movies, and it doesn't give me the option to sit down and re-watch it whenever I want.

I don't think the movie argument holds much weight here. As it's been mentioned sometimes the price of a ticket gets pretty close to $30 (Imax). Buying a Bluray would be a more direct comparable.

The only thing I don't understand is why you're so offended at people calling Ground Zeroes a demo. If you enjoy it then who cares?

It's a proportion thing. Even at $20 for an Imax movie you are getting to see the complete motion picture that cost more to make than most games. The Blu ray comparison doesn't work because you can't buy that for months after the movie release. You are paying essentially half of full game price for a demo that likely offers 5% of the gameplay of the final version. It's just really, really, poor value and taking advantage of fans of the series.

What's next being charged $5 to see a movie trailer? They are going to make a lot of money on this and that's fine but not from me on principal as I don't want this garbage to become common place amongst game makers.

Does anybody else put a dollar amount on their entertainment time? I've always felt movies set a good baseline at about $5/hour (I actually find doing anything else entertainment related for less is difficult). If I'm looking at a mobile game or a console game, I usually try to use it to justify game purchases or to find strong value. For instance, it's going to hurt to pay $70 for NHL in September, but at my rate for entertainment I only need about 14 hours of entertainment out of it. Considering I usually get about 50-75, it's not actually that bad of a deal.

From the sounds of it this MGS game wouldn't fall into my realm of affordable entertainment, but then again I'm not a MGS fan. I personally don't see a problem with things like this. It's a bone to throw the hardcores who want to pay for that experience. It's not essential to the series and nobody makes you play.

I don't worry too much about entertainment metrics like that though I do understand the perspective.

And to be fair, we all make so much money on CP that we normally play blu-ray movies at x100 speed.

I tend to think of it this way as well, and use movies as the baseline too.

Movies: $7/hour/person (Ticket $14, Avg 2 hours length)
Hockey Game: $15/hour/person (Ticket $45, 3 hours gametime)

Videogame: $70

As long as I get between 5 and 10 hours out of a game then I am pretty set. If the game has local multiplayer and my gf enjoys playing as well (Nintendo/Lego) then it becomes an even better bang for your buck.

In terms of entertainment and the breakdown of time spent vs cost video games are a pretty good deal even at $70, that doesn't consider that most games go on sale pretty quickly and that you can usually get them for $40 within a few weeks of launch or through the E3 sales.

Heh, I'm trying not to view it to avoid spoilers. There is an interest subset of "speed run" gamers actually. People compete to race to finish things in record times.

Skyrim done in less than 50 minutes:

4 way race of Metroid for charity:

After many months of rumors and speculation, Sony has formally announced its virtual reality prototype for PlayStation 4, dubbed Project Morpheus. The head-mounted display features a white visor with a black wrap-around piece along the eye-line, and the edges of the device give off a blue LED glow. The prototype will be available for developers to begin creating games soon.

It wouldn't make sense to offer up a couple hours of gameplay as a paid demo for a game when, in this case, there are only a couple hours of gameplay. Maybe it is being used as a demo for PP. How would we know until it actually comes out? It's using the same engine as Ground Zeroes and will presumably utilize assets that went into that game (such as animations).

And as I already said, there is nothing wrong with short games provided they're priced accordingly. I don't know if the average gamer is going to accept paying $30 for 1 hour of gameplay but I am sure I'll find out. At the end of the day, that's all that matters. Nobody cares how much you're willing to pay for horse armor. If the majority of the consumers think it's too high then it's too high. Wait for the dust to settle on this.

I am more interested in this from a business model perspective. If Ground Zeroes ends up being financially successful then I fully expect that we'll see more games like this from bigger publishers.
yeah I'm well up on game demos; that's not what I'm talking about.

DLC isn't what I was thinking of, but a similar concept for sure. I also thought it a bit episodic in nature, but that isn't the right model for what I was thinking.

I am suggesting a chunk of content that is finished and released early for a fee, which goes to the developer to balance the revenue spikes typical of software projects. the purchaser gets a credit on the full game equal or greater than the amount spent for the pre purchased content.

Meaning that gamers aren't out of pocket, and the developer has a bit more balance to the cash flow.

It just makes sense to me on a number of levels.

Played a little bit of MGS GZ last night, great looking visuals from what I could tell but I'm no expert.

It was like riding a bike, totally took me back to my memories of playing it on PS1 and PS2. They made some changes that I think made the game better, can't wait for MGS PP.

So I'm thinking that getting all my games via digital download is gonna be the way to go this generation. I don't really want to deal with swapping and storing discs anymore, and I find trade in value by the time I'm done with a game is virtually zero.

If I buy a game digitally can I install/uninstall it numerous times, whenever I want? Will the uninstalled game still be accessible for me as long as I own the console? (I'm on Xbox 1).

Titles aren't tied to the console, but to your Xbox Live ID. So you can buy a new console and load the games onto that one too.

Will be interesting to see how investing they are into this, and how many developers jump on board. They are definitely tapping into this because of the interests in the Oculus Rift world.

Bundle this with a new CoD/Battlefield game, with a Playstation Move gun peripheral, and they'll jump-start the demand for it.

For what it is worth, CPP already confirmed EVE: Valkyrie for it at GDC. It looked damn cool at last E3.

Has anybody seen any sales numbers at all for Titanfall? Surprising Microsoft hasn't said anything official more than a week later but maybe I just missed it. But it sounds like they're delaying the 360 version once again. Push for more Xbone console sales I guess.

I think it has sold well but still not pushed the XBox One like they hoped it might.

Was in Futureshop and they had plenty of the Titanfall bundles available still.

IMO those who bought the XBox One are likely picking up Titanfall but those who don't have the system aren't running out to get one just for Titanfall.

Actually...

Titanfall boosts Xbox One sales by 96 per cent in the UK - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...cent-in-the-uk
