Polls shouldn't have opinions. Remove everything behind the coma. I may like it for reasons other than why you like it.

Go Indifferent!

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

McGrattan was just on Fan960 and one of the topics was around Lucic. Had a lot of good things to say about him and his role on this team. Hopefully they post it later. Also, maybe it is just me, but it was good to hear Rob Kerr interviewing.

Makes sense I guess. I don't hate it but Neal is pretty much guaranteed to be better in Edmonton since they have 3 NHL forwards and then a bunch of ECHL forwards.

Indifferent - I get the possible motivations and rationale behind the deal but it feels like the sweetener should have been sweeter.

Was between like it and indifferent for me - chose indifferent because I think the return should have been a little better
In the end, I think it will help both teams though - at least for this year. I expect both Neal and Lucic to be motivated, and have better years.
The question will be, which one of them slides into oblivion quicker?

I’m not really sure how to vote. I dislike it, but not for the reasons stated. I think the sweetener should have been better.

Hate it. Not just because Neil will probably have better success in Edmonton but also because I think Lucic is done as a player. I don't see any upside in this deal.

I didn't make the poll (the options I suggested were mostly used), but usually, if given a poll like this with five options, I take the extra explanation as an optional guideline and generally stick by the "love it"/"hate it" parts to determine my answer.

Agreed, I like that Looch is a better fit for the bottom 6, but dont like his NMC. I guess Im indifferent but not because they are both failed projects.
But thats nitpicking i guess.

Just listened to this on the Fan. A lot of what he said about the Lucic trade is why I think this is going to end up being a huge win for the Flames. It can't be anything but positive, having a guy Lucic is good friends with involved with the team as well. I'm really excited about having Lucic on this team.
Also agree, nice to hear Rob do the interview.

They didn't though.
So is it ...
a) he had other options and chose to ignore them?
b) was lazy and only phoned Edmonton?
I mean honestly, to me this has always followed a logic line.
1. They wanted Neal gone
2. Owners wouldn't sign off on buy out (or Treliving didn't want it)
3. This was the only bite on the line

I voted that I like it but not for the reason listed.
I like it because I'd rather have Lucic at $5.25 million than Neal at $5.75 million. Especially if Neal was a pouty malcontent butting heads with the coach.

No kidding; would much rather be paying Lucic 5.25 versus paying 6.5 for Neal. I think this has a bigger chance to blow up in Edmonton’s face (as per usual lol)

Voted indifferent for the same reasons I gave when this was announced.

Ended up being $750k, but that doesn't change my view.

|
That will almost certainly be true for both of them. One of the interesting things to watch with this trade will be how quickly their games deteriorate.
I expect both to have rebound years. But what will years 2, 3 and 4 look like?
The good news with respect to Lucic is that his salary will be less than his cap hit for the last couple years, so he may yet be movable.

This for me, without much of a sweetener there’s no upside to get excited about.
Trading Lucic the player for Neal the player, the Flames didn’t get any worse than they were, but I do feel Neal has a better chance of being somewhat good going forward than Lucic does, but based solely on 2018-19, the Flames got the better player.
Lucic the (retained) contract for Neal the contract should have resulted in a bigger sweetener, something like a top 20 protected first or two seconds or similar would have been what I was expecting, or at least way more retention (2mil+).
I don’t think it moves the needle, but for taking on the additional contract risk there should have been a bigger reward, or less risk.
