The free shows can be pretty fun to shoot too (e.g. H2X and whatever's in the Corral most years).

Reg. How are your pictures so clear? I crop mine in iPhoto and it blows up the photo and has some grainy parts to it

Thanks.

iPhoto? No clue what that is. I can only assume it's Apple's photo editing software? I stay away from anything Apple, so I can't help you there.

What gear are you shooting with? What are your settings?

As for the clarity of mine, the Nikon D800 Fullframe DSLR is one hell of a camera. The 14-24mm f/2.8 & 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses are two of Nikkor's best.

Both of my "head" shots were handheld, the recent building shot I had to use my tripod.

Keep in mind it's much easier to clearly capture static objects verses a super fast bird of prey.

From what I see it's Canon's entry level DSLR, perhaps with some f/2.8 and or longer lenses you could get better detail without having to crop a tonne.

Grain is caused almost exclusively by two things, high ISO and underexposure, but there's a lot of things that can throw off sharpness:

- Being out of focus
- Low quality equipment
- Shutter speed too low (subject moves)
- Shutter speed too low (camera shake)
- Aperture too big (I don't know of any lenses that are sharpest wide open)
- Aperture too small (causes diffraction effects)

Finally, being overexposed can cause you to lose detail in bright areas, which might make a photo look "unsharp" even if it actually is sharp.

Unfortunately, stopping down causes your shutter speed to slow or ISO to go up, so it's all a big balancing act unless you have a lot of light to work with. Landscapes are significantly easier to get sharp than wildlife, as shutter speed usually doesn't matter much (unless there's trees and stuff blowing around in the wind).

That's a pretty sweet bridge there on the right.

Add to that 70-200 f/2.8 VR and you've got Nikon' "essential three".

Might be the best one you've done Regulator, congrats. Love the way the Peace Bridge just forces you to keep going in these panoramas to include it.

iPhoto isn't a professional editing tool. It's meant to be used for your cell phone pictures etc. If you're serious about editing your photos with even your entry level DSLR (and that's all I still shoot with, entry level) go with Apature if you're in the Apple ecosystem.

Adobe Lightroom is the other choice.
