If Weegar went on the block, with his contract, I’m sure we would get a nice package back.
And our giveaways/turnovers would be cut in half, lol.

My guess is Parekh will be in the AHL next year so keeping Weegar and Whitecloud to start next year, at least, and look to trade one of them at next year's TDL.

I honestly think a Weegar return would be similar to what the Rasmus extended packages were. Since the Ras extension would've likely been in the $9M range, and Weegar is only 6.25 (and on a shorter term than Ras would've been asking for), I consider them very close to equal overall

I wouldn’t mind moving Weegar but I think that is a next year move. Hopefully he has a better end to the year and a solid year next year. He is signed to a decent contract as well for what he brings, especially with a rising cap.
See the tale of Andersson’s last season and a half, and how much his play flipped this year.
We should focus more on Hanley, Pachal and Whitecloud (though I wouldn’t mind this being a next year move as well). Let’s not flood the market and tank the value of our own rental sells. I hope Hanley can net a 2nd or 3rd, and Pachal a mid round pick. The post game show was talking about how much loved Hanley is in Dallas, and how they keep asking about “Nacho” when they chat with them. Why not a re-union there.

CJ’s updated trade board:
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/698...in-pettersson/
He has Kadri at 3 (2 now that Sherwood has been traded). With one retention spot left I wonder if the Flames would use it on him. Obviously Coleman could use it too but given his hit and term are less, I wonder if Coleman is more player for player with the Flames getting the sweetener as well. Suppose Dallas could do it outright if they wanted to. Coleman is 9 on his list.
Really interested to see if Whitecloud gets flipped as well.

I think the good thing, potentially, about Kadri, Coleman, Whitecloud is they fill different holes. So I’m not sure if it’s flooding the market. The Flames know the teams that are looking for a RHS D and what assets are available in return for them. It will be interesting now that Hughes got hurt last night, sounds like a dislocated shoulder, so perhaps Hamilton’s availability isn’t what it was before headed into that game.
The Flames are still set up well to gain some significant assets. Let’s hope they take advantage of it.
One swap I wonder about is a Kadri for Liaine +1st swap. Mostly for salary reasons, it might make sense. Puts the Flames, again, in position to flip Liaine for more assets although he could be hard to move without retention. Just a thought, probably far fetched.

I don't see the Flames retaining on Kadri. Retaining for 3 years is a tough ask, unless the return is phenomenal

I wonder whether the Bruins and Wings offer similar packages that they had for a signed Andersson.

Not sure why they are ranking Kadri above Coleman
Coleman has been lights out this year and Kadri has fallen off a cliff. He almost in Huberdeau territory

Huberdeau and Coleman have the same amount of points in the same amount of games. Kadri still leads the team in scoring. Kadri has certainly dipped recently though with some uninspiring play while Coleman has been steady and solid all year.

I suspect they trade Coleman with retention this season. They wait until next to move Kadri, when Markstrom and Andersson come off the retention slots. That’s three years retention on Kadri.
Plus it’s easier to internally replace Coleman than Kadri. The Flames have wingers to move into that slot. They don’t have centres who can take Kadri’s minutes. I don’t think Zary can.

Is it out of question to ask for a premium (such as Dickinson)+ for Weegar? I know Weegar's play this season has been likely his worst ever in his career, but in most years he is consistent and very good.

Sens would likely be more interested in Weegar than any other team. Ottawa native and they desperately need an upgrade to the RD

Weegar is having a nightmare season so someone would have to pay up based on his previous play otherwise it makes sense to hold on and hope he bounces back next year.

Aren’t teams only given 2 retention slots?
