Well, in fairness, he is like an extra one of their defencemen.

Was supposed to be a waste of 8 days for Nashville at Colorado in Rnd 1. Oilers were able do it in 7.

The closest sweep was 1st round sweep the year before.

Yeah the video is yucky, just a nip by the skate and instant blood on the ice and Kane goes FAST to the bench, terror in his eyes.

That sucks.

Sounds similar to what happened to Flames prospect, Ryan Culkin a few years ago. He was probably a couple weeks away from an NHL recall until his injury. His career never recovered.

This happened to me in practice one time. I still have a scar down my arm. Didn't even feel it. Just saw blood shooting from my arm while my team mates came and wrapped it up with their jerseys.

Yikes! I took a skate to the inside of my leg just under my pants and had to get two layers of stitches, luckily it was in a spot with no muscle/tendons. Still a gnarly scar after 20 years

It's always the same with Staples. The Oilers are going to win the Cup. But they don't. And on and on.

Staples is a grown man who still acts like a 10 year old when it comes to being a fan. He thinks, with every win, that his team is the greatest, and will win every game. Then thinks, with each loss that it is because they forgot that they are the greatest, and just didn't try hard enough.

He sees everything about the Oilers through the lens of a 10 year old, idolizing - worshiping - his beloved heroes. Embarrassing enough on its own.

But then he posts articles and tweets from the platform of the media, with that same 10-year old perspective. And that is more than embarrassing, it is full on cringe.

I hate Staples so much. I can never tell which is worse, his hockey writing or his political writing, but in reality, both are dog ####.

Honestly he might not be wrong.

NHL is becoming more driven by stars and specifically special teams, and the Oiler excel in those areas.

He's not wrong that the Oilers can beat anybody if they commit to team defense and get goaltending, because they have stars who seem to be able to score at will.

Problem is they don't have the goaltending, and they won't commit to team defense.

Right, but generally speaking if your team is committed to a 200 foot game you're generally going to lose.

EVERY team can beat anybody if they play well and get good goaltending.

NO ONE can beat everyone every night.

The Oilers haven't even demonstrated that they are AMONG the elite teams in the league, never mind head and shoulders above them, like Staples is implying.

I’m not going to post the tweet because it disgusts me.

It is the official Sportsnet twitter account and it says:

“Connor McDavid might score a million goals this season.”

Obviously hyperbole and equally cheerleading.

It’s the lack of integrity and neutrality on teams and players that drives people away. Rhetorical question: which team does the bbc support?
