I mean, deficits and adding on more debt are a given at this point. It really comes down to what it's funding and whether it can contribute to economic growth that can bring the debt to GDP ratio down in the mid-term. For instance, Canada has added about $250B in federal debt in the last 4 years. But relative to GDP it has actually shrunk in that time period.

Just saw the latest Con tv ad. Its two guys, even older than I am, at the driving range saying theyll vote conservative.
Whats the point here? Not attracting the youth vote, but trying to firm up the angry old white male vote?

Yes.
The Cons already have the youth vote. They are the only ones talking about affordability and housing and good paying jobs, in a simple language that the younger voters can relate to.
The problem is, that there is no meat behind the CPC claims to provide any of these things. There are ways to lower the cost of living while increasing the standard of living, but the Libs aren't trying to attempt any of these, and the Cons would never do them in a million years. That's because it would have to make massive swings in the ways the nation views a lot of their traditional ways of doing things.
An election is about huge promises, but not huge delivery.
Personally, especially after seeing what the UCP and Trump did (promising the world and then burning it down for personal profit), I don't really trust the PCP to do anything positive, and that their promises are hot air.
The Libs promises are pretty damned boring, but that doesn't capture the youth vote.
So, old man ads.

Maybe they blame the woke liberal agenda for their slices & tripple bogies?
It does seem to be the cause of every other problem they have.

May not vote for the first time ever.

Have the Conservatives laid out their costed plan yet? All these tax cuts and incentives cost money. I’d be surprised to see a significant difference in terms of adding money to the debt with their platform either.

So the defence of the Liberals deficits is but but but the Cons will be bad too!
I said I don't like Poilievre and was planning to vote Liberal (surprisingly). The Cons have already lost my vote, now the Liberals have too.

I am assuming the Easter holiday is making it convenient for more advanced voting than was expected.

Me, too! I'm interested in finding out how I'll optimize my time waiting for that voter to return from going behind the screen.
Btw, they offer positions for advance polls to the experienced poll workers before opening them up to newbies so it's more than likely that the advanced polls are staffed by people who know what they are doing.

10 wasted years working on their swing mechanics!

This is probably the most important election of our lifetime. Democracy is literally on the line with a fascist Conservative pro Trump Party being a serious threat. Sitting it out is probably not a good idea. Those who do will be sorry if things go bad.

This election is extremely simple. Do you want Danielle Smith's provincial politics replicated at the federal level?
It's no different. See what's happening in 'Berta and apply it federally to get a glimpse.

Yeah but you can prob sit it out if you are in AB or SK. Ontario will save us and Quebec will give the Libs a majority.
However you are a deplorable if you cast a vote for Pierre Yapdog Mini Trump! Why do you hate science?

So what would you cut from the platform.
Most of this is pricing in a recession driven by Tarrifs. Are you pro austerity during a recession? Pro tax increase during a recession? I prefer the Kenysian approach.
Our biggest competitor is turning on the money printing machine to drive inflation we can’t control that. Austerity measures seem like the wrong choice.

Do we have a liberal candidate. I haven’t seen a single thing.

It’s not so much a defence as it is a acknowledgement that all of the platforms are going to show deficit spending. I think when they’ve all been going around for 3/4 weeks talking about their plans to build all kinds of things, cut taxes and stimulate the economy, that’s to be expected?
You can take that as defence for the Liberals, or not. It’s just the reality of the situation. Frankly, if the CPC plan is costed and comes out as balanced, the cuts to make that happen are going to be massive.
