In my opinion the Pens should have started a rebuild around when they instead chose to extend Malkin. At some point the mentality will shift there from win now, I just think it should be sooner than later and that means they won't move their 1st today.

But doesn't really matter what I think, just chatting on a messageboard until we have actual rumors or trades to talk about.
Calgary's current situation is a great example of what the players want dictating the direction.

No way they retain salary, need the cap room for the 4th line plugs for the push for 8th

Seems like the Pens are continuing with their perpetual all in mindset. Wonder if they are the best trading partner for Hanifin, can imagine #14 packaged with a young dman like Ty Smith or Pickering would be an interesting starting point for the flames

Doubt Conroy goes with plugs on the 4th line. Suspect 2/3 of the 4th line this year will have played less than 100 NHL games each at the start of the season.

That would be pretty much getting $4.9M in cap savings if we could immediately flip Roslovic to another team for a pick (3rd rounder). Wouldn't be a bad move, but I can't see Columbus giving up the third overall and the Flames retaining $5M in salary, even for a franchise centerman.

They are a team that is trying to win now. Could be a good trading partner.

With the market as slow as it has been… #14 overall straight up for either Hanifin or Lindholm might be asking too much. I hope it can happen though.

They could be if the Flames also were not trying to win now. No idea what the direction is yet. Not holding my breath for any clarity today but it would be nice.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is trading a top 5 pick, but it's fun to dream. Getting fantilli or Carlsson would be like taking a nice long shower and washing away the last year

I am hearing there has been a lot of dialogue about Hanifin between Conroy and Kevyn Adams today.

Buffalo makes so much such for Hanifin, fits a need, their age group, and they have the cap room.

I love Hanifin for Buffalo.

Power, Dahlin, Hanifin is a Championship quality Top-3 on D.

I’m just going to hold on to dreams of Krebs + 13th Overall for as long as I can.

If Buffalo doesn't want to throw their early pick(s) this year in a deal, center it around Quinn or Krebs as the main piece back instead. Could actually be better off with that anyway as far as removing some risk for the Flames.

I wouldn't love this, but Krebs + Philly's 2nd would be better.

I'd be happy with just 13.
