Honestly I think losing Kane is addition by subtraction for the Oilers. He had some production but some games he is a total non factor too. Or worse.

Vancouver knows they will be garbage next year so there's nothing to break and if anything he drags them further into McKenna territorry. Some team may take a flyer on Kane at the deadline knowing he can bring an edge to his game for playoffs. So they get another mid-pick.
Oilers get the cap space to sign Trent Frederic for 8 years and re-sign Perry.
Neither team wins this trade but if you had to pick a "winner" it's Vancouver.

This trade still has me giggling. The Nucks traded Miller because of locker room issues and yet they went out and got Evander fricken Kane....yup, that'll definitely make things better in that room

I for one am astonished that they couldnt get the Oil to throw in a sweetener on this deal.
I get that retention wasn't on the table because money is something the Oilers simply dont have, but if you're going to ask me to hold on to your hand-grenade so that you dont have to then you'd have to make it really, really worth my while.
