I guess I’m too cynical.
Of course they’re going to say they’re not rebuilding. Businesses don’t project messages like ‘yes we’ll purposefully offer a poor product next year please pay money to see it’
I’m a bit surprised at how literally people are taking all of their messages.

Didn't the NYR literally do this a few years back?

This is the most unlikable Flames team that I have followed. Hopefully this losing streak has every UFA as well as management putting extension talks on pause. I feel bad for the people that paid money to watch that game tonight.

It was Bean's press conference man.
John Bean made us look like the Kevin Lowe Oilers.
The Flames also extending Backlund, moving to extend Lindholm and Hanifin...that's not a team that seems to be moving in the direction of rebuilding. That seems to be a team that has horribly mis-assessed itself.

Bean was pretty clear: "We don't use the R-word."

This is what many teams have done . Told the fans they are rebuilding , explained the reasoning and plan , and asked for support

If so, great. They can only choose to claim it if it's pick number 20-32, which means we made the playoffs and then have 3 first rounders in the next 2 years.

Honestly parts of this fan base deserves the #### on ice product we've received these past two seasons.
Going back to the 21-22 season certain "fans" of this team have been hoping for this team to suck, more than hoping they win, because then they'd "be right" and get to flaunt it like some badge of honor and it's freaking embarrassing.
Do I wish the Flames would commit to an actual rebuild? 100% but I don't pay the bills like Murray Edwards does.
Do I wish this team still had Tkachuk and Gaudreau? 100%, but those pricks decided they didn't want to be here and can now screw off. I hope they never have success on their new teams, and never win a cup.
Do I wish we didn't have $17.5M combined allocated to Kadri and Huberdeau? 100%, but we do, so for as long as they are wearing the Flaming C im going to hope that they play well because that's the best chance we have at either winning with them, or being able to trade them.
I'm a fan of the team. Not certain players, not certain coaches, a fan of the team. And I will cheer for the team to have success even if it means I'm wrong about certain things or certain players.
We can make fun of Oilers fans all we want but at least they actually cheer for their team and want them to win.
This fan base cheering for certain players to fail, or for the team to fall flat on their face is embarassing. Cheer for the team, don't cheer to be "right"

It's funny how upset the fans are. I'm fairly certain Murray Edwards could't care less about winning. He got his billion from the taxpayers and the value of his team will go up drastically.
I'm sure he is quite happy right now.

Yeah but that's just by accident if they bottom out. The current management actually though they would be better, so I'm not sure what you're saying is much of a positive lol.

I think it is a management group that felt the coach was the biggest problem and that they would see significant bounce backs from everyone who sucked last year most notably Huberdeau, Markstrom, Mangiapane, and Kadri.
If this performance continues Sutter will be somewhat vindicated as he got the most out of that group that anyone possibly could have and an average coach along with this below average aging roster will be a bottom third team most likely.

No team ever really bottoms out on purpose (the first year or two). Once they've already bottomed out then they commit to a rebuild but they rarely ever start the "rebuild" intentionally.
The Lightning had re-signed Lecavalier, St Louis, and Boyle when they bottomed out for Hedman and Stamkos. They were a cap team that bottomed out and got lucky.
The Oilers didn't intentionally bottom out for all their picks, and were certainly trying to win by the time they got McDavid.
What these teams do however is don't try to make panic moves to salvage bad seasons. When you're in the middle of a bad season then just lean into it and get the high pick.
It's what the Flames should have done in the 20-21 season instead of hiring Sutter mid-season and it's what they should probably do this season if this play continues.
