What would a buy out for Huberdeau or Kadri even look like. I have to think whatever the cost it would be better than having them around.

I doubt it. Both those guys have three years left after this year. Huberdeau has seven and his deal is virtually buyout proof. I think his value has tanked really hard and teams would at least want to see him be an impact player again before taking on such a long deal.

I think I could live with having Huberdeau for the long haul if we can't deal him.
He still has his moments and if we can get some finishers here, he might rack up point on the PP at the very least.
But I'd buy out Kadri. He hurts the team by making whichever line he's on atrocious and a liability.
He might wind up with a more negative +/- than points.
He's 1.33 minuses/game currently.

My concern with having them here is that management (and ownership) convince themselves that with them we can get a play-off spot and anything can happen then.
If the team comes out saying and showing they are tearing it up around them then sure why not, but the team has shown zero willingness to do that.

Buying out Kadri leaves his cap hit on the books for 10 years, but goes down to $1.9MM per year after 3 years. (per Capfriendly)
By then the cap should be $100 million+.

From Montreal’s perspective, sure. I meant if you were GM of the Flames you’d have to at least think about it.

If you are going to not be a Stanley cup contender anyway no sense in buying someone out. This is one time the owners cheapness is a good thing. Time to buy someone out was James Neal. I would rather they keep those contracts on the books for the next 3 years at least than buy them out and have the cap hit for 10 years or 14 years in the case of Huberdeau.

We will look like idiots when Huberdeau gets proper linemates and is allowed to play a system where he scored 100 points
Just get some fast players for Huberdeau and let him do whatever the F he wants. What's the worst that could happen? Lose?

Yeah, it only seems like a matter of time before we pay a premium to get Duclair in town in an effort to get Huberdeau going

I'm actually Okay to sign Hanifin and Lindholm. But main problem is Huberdeau , Kadri and Weegar all signed for long term. Adding these two to these 3 gives me no hope.

I never said pay a premium just get a couple quick players and let them play fire wagon hockey.
D is supposed to be good, Wolf/Markstrom are supposed to be good...let the forwards score some goals.
Worst that happens is you lose and all your potential trade chips have more points than they would otherwise

That sounds very appealing after the drop. 1.9 is almost inconsequential with a 100 mil budget.

why bother buying out at this stage? Not like the Flames need the cap space. They don't have anyone in the system they have to worry about paying.

Put him with Sharang and Duehr, the only thing working right now. Unless Greer is actually the straw.

Attendance is already on the decline. Never mind playoff revenue - what about regular season revenue?
I still think this city and this fanbase has more of an appetite for a rebuild than whatever country club the Flames have created right now.
I worry however that ownership will read the declining attendance numbers the wrong way and double down (or is it triple down at this point?) on the current strategy.

Even if the team was rebuilding I think it would be detreminental to young players to have a guy with Kadris GAF meter and self centered play style in a mentoring role.
Flames will probably keep him around for another year or two then buy him out or make a change of scenery hockey deal.

A proper rebuild will be 5 years. Kadri would be in his last year. Buy him out then.
