Why would Sutter stay with this team, the guy wants to win and doesn't need the money.

This franchise is cursed. I don't see why anyone good would want to come here at this point. Maybe they will pack things up and move after all?

Free advice: don't let what is said on social media including about the team you randomly chose to root for impact you. It doesn't matter.

For me it was about that they couldn't seem to stop McDavid consistently probably due to the poor team speed overall. Losing Tanev then tipped it over further. I didn't anticipate the poor goaltending.
I was also worried about how the season long lobbying by the Oilers would impact how the games were called.

It stings and I really liked both players but part of me feels this is a blessing in disguise.

Now the ability for the Flames management to capitalize on this opportunity is a whole other story.

Well not Ottawa. Too much family reunion. I will say there might be some clubs who think they can sign him even if they're not on the list. There are no legal restrictions on where he goes.

Wow this seems unprecedented.
Matt is not his brother, the two have different opinions. It was pretty common knowledge that Matt wasn't going to re-sign in Calgary, he took the quickest option to Free Agency.

Not a single forward out there yet AVAILABLE that plays like Tkachuk.
80+ pt poward forward with a nasty edge and silky hands.

I'm so sad to be losing him, but we should get a kings RANSOME for Tkachuk.
For those saying Eichel return, I'd argue Tkachuk is significantly more valuable because of all the intangibles let alone the career points.

Better be an insane haul.

Next up - Hanifin

I doubt Coronato signs.

We are in big trouble, this franchise is not trending well.

Hey at least Tkachuck is giving a list of teams and not having his agent leak that he only wants Montreal like the ###### nozzle Dubois.

Has a long-standing personal relationship with ownership.

If he doesn't want to coach, I hope he still stays on as an advisor or scout. Even in a rebuild, this organization is better with him than without.

would not surprise me one bit if he stepped down. there's literally no reason for him to be here if they're not going to be competing for a cup. might be waiting to see the return we get first. we will see

With the stroke of Johnny's pen, Calgary became Columbus.

This can't be happening.

Me, me, me.

If you want to win I don't know why you bail on a Sutter team that was set up really well to make another go at it next season.

They prefer comfort to milking the prime of their careers playing on the best 200 foot line in decades.

we couldn't stop them from scoring, so often our only option was to score even more goals against their sad defense and goaltending. now we still have the same back-end that McD can feast on, plus it just got a lot harder to keep up on the offense.

I'm ready for the slog of a rebuild, but BoA's for the next few years might be the most annoying part of it all.

As Miller said, do we really think this team was going to win a cup with 20M+ tied up in Tkachuk and Johnny?
I'm ready for something new.
Last season was great (save for the last four games of Round 2) but I'm starting to come around to what the future might hold. Leaving aside regular season success, the previous core didn't do enough while 13/19 were being paid $14M let alone $20M+.

Brady signed in Ottawa because the contract they gave him takes him to UFA at age 27/28 and paid him 58M in guaranteed money for a player who at the time had a career high of 45 points.. It was a no brainer business decision. The Tkachuk's have and always will treat the game as a business first and foremost. Matthew is looking to maximize his earnings potential after what will very likely be his best statistical season. It's not a coincidence that the teams listed are tax free states, or his hometown.
