Everything has a price. I'd agree, just getting rid of him for the sake of it is not good. But if someone comes along with a big offer, you have to entertain it.

Exactly this.
Bedard & Michkov are easily the 2 you'd be blessed to win a shot at.
But there's a plethora of elite centers right behind them (in no order)

Dvorsky - Swedish dream team material

Meh. Terrible draft and late picks. Would have been lucky to get one good player.

If the flames ended up drafting third and got fantilli I’d be stoked. Big and skilled physical center? That’s the kind of guy you can absolutely build around

Again - are the fans against a rebuild, or ownership? Sure seems like ownership wants to ice a competitive team and make the playoffs. Unless things change this summer and ownership pulls a 180 it will be the direction the franchise continues on. I don't think there's a lot of fans here against a rebuild.

I mean, I agree that's been the ownerships mandate for decades now.
But the franchise has to view losing its top 2 franchise players in the same year as a sign of change this time around one would hope no?
Name me the last time a team lost 2 100pt players in the same year.
Time to step back from whatever the Flames think they are or were and wake up to the reality that this team needs to rebuild or at the very least re-tool with a draft or 2.

You don't have to convince me. I'm not against it. Just saying I don't think ownership is into a full on tanking. Would love to be wrong.

They are business people, they’ll figure it out. The 2 best players walked out on them and no replacement so far.
Let’s see what we get for Tkachuk. That may tell the story.

I would love to see the Flames organization do what the Rangers did and just say hey we're going to rebuild. Have some patience, and we're going to turn this thing around and come back stronger than ever. I think fans would see hope in that as opposed to watching this team slowly decline until the rebuild is inevitable, and we're starting from scratch with no quality assets left and who knows what quality of drafts ahead.

It's not like he had a career year and has a great contract that you could retain and get a massive return on.
Have some pride. Show some class. Cheer for mediocrity.
|
That's the thing, if the Flames do it right, some of the key pieces like Lindholm, Tiffoli, Mangi, Andersson, Kylington, etc... may still be around in 2 years or more. Could be more exciting times then. Tanking when a generational/deep draft sets the future. Pride is when you can show it with championships. I can care less about pride when all this franchise had done in the mid-90's is give away talent and now, we're losing all pride when there's nothing to show for.

I didn't read the last few pages, but did anyone suggest bringing Taylor Hall here? He's got a pretty good track record for winning 1st overalls...

"Tank for Bedard" = take a crapshoot on a crapshot.
No guarantee of winning the crapshoot, and it's a crapshot to see if the player pans out.
Yah...solid plan, that.

Bedard is not a crapshoot. He is a real deal. Not James Neal type

The rangers are a pretty bad example. They've been awful at developing their own skaters, and just poach then from other teams, see Fox and Panarin.

IMO the top 5 players in the 2023 draft all go ahead of any player selected in the 2022 draft. You don't need to pick 1st overall to get an elite prospect in 2023.

Trying to maximize draft pick value in a historically deep draft = 'take a crapshoot on a crapshot'
Cobbling together some FAs and trying to gun for a playoff spot, because 'you never know what can happen,' probably end up picking 15th overall = 'solid plan'?
