Johnny, Tanev and Kylington might be interesting. A shutdown D-pairing and 2 game-breakers. Let Kylington play rover without risk.

If you take away the 6 SO wins, the Flames still have a 7-4-5 record and a +2 goal differential. That's a 97 point pace over 82 games which (consults snake) is good enough for the playoffs.

Jarry was incredible. I wonder if he is on the list for team Canada.

That last quote is from the Penguin's beat writer. The Flames are building a reputation as a team that is no fun to play.

If this year's team keeps chugging they'll have that ugly season behind them soon.

The lids they use now have an opening in them which is about the same size as one in a can. The lids no longer foam all over and you can easily drink with them on.

Good game by Tristan Jarry as the Flames outshot the Pens 32-22.
I would have liked to maybe see a different player selection in overtime, no Lindholm, Tkachuk or Monahan tonight.
As pointed out already, the game was a 7 round shoot out and not OT as the title suggests. Again, lucky win for the Flames especially against a good goalie like Jarry.
Sweet snipe by Milan Lucic for the Flames only regulation goal.
I also think it was a bit of a fluke goal on the Penguins only goal as that pass by Crosby was meant for the guy down low but was deflected by Jake Guentzel.
|
I don't quite get the narrative that the Flames were a bit lucky to get the two points.
The Flames completely dominated this game, ending up somewhere in the 75% xGF stat. If not for Jarry standing on his head and three posts, this is a 5-1 or 5-0 blowout. It could easily have been 3 or 4 zip at the end of the first. If the Flames DID NOT get two points out of this it would have been a complete fluke because honestly, no matter how good the goalie is at the other end, if you are 75% xGF and you have a moderately competent goalie (and the Flames have something far more than "moderately competent goalie" in both their goalies) you will win the vast majority of your games.
The Pens were exceedingly lucky to get one point out of this, and should pack it up and run like the Ikea commercial.

|
I don't know if it is normal, but it did result in the right call. There is no question that Coleman grabbed the Pens stick, and as he let it go it flipped up into his face. In that scenario, the refs got it right.
The missed interference call in the third (I think) was by far the worst missed call of the night.

What a game and big shout out to Kylington in particular. Amazing two line passes all game and the shift he had after assisting on Lucic’s goal was an outright clinic by him. His pinches are incredible and the way he’s able to skate back to defence after pinch plays and face the opposition skating backwards is unreal. I think he could turn into a truly special talent if he continues taking the strides he’s been taking. Loving seeing him start OT as well!

I'd like to hear Tanev's comparison between Kylington and Hughes.

That can easily be explained by their poor overtime record which all would be 1 goal wins. So yes, additional finish in OT is needed.
They only have 4 regulation losses in 22 games, so the close losses you're referencing are almost non existent. Take away the first game of the season vs Edmonton, and there's only 3.
1-4 SJS
2-4 MTL
2-4 WPG
3 of 22 games is not a systematic issue
