Thinking back to the Hamilton for Lindholm and Hanifin trade and how much I hated that at the time. It looked awful. We traded the best defenseman, added Adam Fox a prospect who's dominance in college was getting play, and Ferland who had played on our top line with Gaudreau and Monahan. Carolina seemed fine losing Hanifin and Lindholm had mediocre numbers.

Brad actually made several shrewd roster management decisions there. Hamilton wanted out, Fox wasn't signing, Ferland was still useful but concussion issues were piling up. It turned out to be a big win. That's how I rationalize that package. guys who want out and aren't re-signing. Also, TBull8 can take a bow if it goes through.

I actually think Treliving will be hesitant to move any of Zary, Pelletier, or Coronato. Historically he's shown he's hesitant to move recent 1st rounders until their value was maybe a little down (Valimaki, Bennett).

And if the goal is to contend in the next 4 years while Eichel, Tanev, Markstrom are all under contract...then you need those three guys to fill the roster during that time.

Also if the offer was Tkachuk and our top prospects then it's a no brainer for Buffalo. But I think the trade off here is the better top piece from Calgary (Tkachuk) or the better futures (Krebs/Brisson) from Vegas.

Brisson is a 29th overall pick. The best 29th overall pick of the last 21 years is Mike Green, surrounded by a whole lot of meh.

Peyton Krebs can't even make the Knights NOW, and they don't have any healthy forwards.

Tkachuk, Valimaki (a real NHL D), 1st, ++... They can't possibly love Krebs that much.

This package would sting, especially depending on the unnamed prospects.

I love Tkachuk, but there have been enough odd red flags lately, unfounded or not, that make me nervous about his long term future here regardless.

I'd love to see him locked up long term had a decent caphit, but the potential for him to accept the dreaded $9.5M QO and simply walk to UFA status and leave for nothing is terrifying.

So if the Flames have reason to believe he is probably unlikely to sign long-term here at an acceptable salary, then moving him as the central piece for Eichel makes a lot of sense.

Mangianpane's rise makes his long-term extension really important too. And of course keeping Johnny would be fantastic, so definitely not enough money to go around.

The Flames are at a point where they need to chose two of the three: Tkachuk, Gaudreau or Mangiapane. It is difficult to imagine a course of action where they can sign all three this off season.

Nothing ensures those two re-signing, especially Tkachuk.

Yeah I have a feeling this might be the ask. It makes sense if the leak is from Buffalo’s side. I’d expect some merit to the rumor if Weekes posted about it. Is Buffalo leaking this to create some tensions between the Tkachuk camp and the flames.
