Lucic is still a highly effective forechecker.

Zadorov is God awful. Who are the pro scouts for the Flames? They should be fired. I honestly trust Gudbranson more. Dude can't make a simple pass.

In Edmonton, they are too stupid to notice.

Coleman really reminds me of Glencross, fast 2-way player with a nasty side. I think he'll be a fan favourite as a result.

Won that period 2-0 for those keeping score

I think you mean brown paper bags, not just masks.
After killing those two Coleman penalties, the Flames have looked much much better. Maybe they just need him to take a couple penalties early in the first period instead of early in the second.

This.
Fantenberg/Nesterov/Hamonic etc were just terrible for us but continued to get the minutes. Valimaki, while young, was also underwhelming on a regular basis last year yet Kylington never got in.
And if the NHL is not a development league, then none of that explains why Kylington wasn't assigned to Stockton, considering he cleared waivers last year.
The organization, whether the coaches or management, kept him out of games all last year.
Sutter is a breath of fresh air.

I think my opening night roster right now would look like:
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Dube - Coleman
Monahan - Backlund - Ritchie
Lucic - Gawdin - Duehr
Richardson
Hanifin - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Zadarov - Stone
Valimaki

Except it is not what happened. Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Dube, Andersson and Valimaki all became NHL regulars in that same period of time, and Kylington played over 40 games in tbe 2018 season.

I understand the argument, but that’s not how a guy like Sutter sees it. He figures a vet (say, Lucic) knows when he made a mistake and why it happened, and that it was just a mistake. Whereas he tends to use mistakes by kids as something that needs correcting. Rightly or wrongly.

It’s pretty inexcusable from the org that he only got into 8 games over the entire season
Young players need to play. He essentially sat on the taxi squad all year as the #8

Kylington hasn't gotten ice time prior to this year because he hasn't played well enough
he was not treated unfairly

I don't think it is at all inexcusable; considering especially how good he looks now, and the fact that he slid through the expansion draft.

Hahah, I just rewound on the TSN broadcast and caught it.
Jets shoot the puck into his little area between the 2 benches so he obviously had to watch out for the flying puck. Let out a very audible "Fuuuuuuuuuc......" while clearly thinking he was muted.

And in the season split between Ward and Peters I think Ward may have played him more than Peters (I could be wrong though, and he certainly played a fair bit under Peters in the year before).

Ahhhh yes the org exposed him to every team in the league to protect him from one instead of the Norris winning captain

Troy Brouwer’s Brouwerplay.
James Neal PP2/PP1 time/James Neal being on the ice at any point.
Flames acquiring endlessly irrelevant depth defenceman to keep Kylington out of the line-up (and spending futures to do so!).
Michael Frolik(the later years)/Chris Stewart/Brett Ritchie playing ahead of Sam Bennett.
Sean Monahan, despite being completely broken, being played all season last year ahead of pretty much anyone else.
Oh, Dillon Dube under Geoff Ward. Play good for half the game, make one mistake and get benched.

Not that I think this was by design, but if Kylington finally turns the corner this year, then it sure as hell is a fortunate outcome for Calgary. Their handling of him becomes entirely excusable if this is what happens, and it sure looks like it could.
