Do you think it was the experience he gained by not playing hockey that got him to where he is this season?
Or perhaps it's the fact that his coach is actually showing belief in him to simply play his game?

Mask usage seems to be a lot better in Winnipeg than Calgary and especially Edmonton.

it's a chicken and egg thing - you have to earn ice time
the NHL is not a development league

This is a bad perspective in my eyes. Young NHL players shouldn’t be disciplined by being benched when they make a mistake while veterans who make mistakes keep getting played - and that’s what happened in Calgary under Gulutzan/Peters/Ward, and the team has suffered for it.
Mistakes by young players are a lot easier to digest than veterans making the mistakes.
