Default Tampa 5 Flames 4 SO loss

Last season the hockey was so boring. Now it is wonderful. We finally have a team going at it with the best.

And not just with the best, Tampa right now are playing at their best and but for world class goalkeeping in OT, we would have had them.

There have been parties and Christmas lunches at work all week, people wearing Christmas jumpers and because of how meetings worked out, I’ve had to work my nuts off.

No meetings today, so I’m going in this morning wearing my Johnny retro.

Loving this hockey.

Guess I didn't make it simple enough.

Best game in the NHL in months. Go to TSN homepage to catch the commentary and... nothing. Habs...leafs...hey did you know Mathews and Marner were in a ballet? **** off TSN. You are truly the worst. Totally done with you.

my only question after a great game is with Bennett feeling it all night I was surprised that he didn't get a chance in the shoot out. He would have been one of my first 3 or 4.

Ah, makes sense although that would be games back and not games in hand. Games in hand means that although you may be 1 or back, you have played 2 less games therefore in a better position with 2 games in hand. Under that same example if it were used in hockey, 1 or behind in the standings would be half a game back, would it not?

TSN hasn’t been good since Jay and Dan left, and even now that they’re back their show seems really forced. It’s sad knowing Sportsnet is now probably better than TSN, at least when it comes to highlight shows and the articles they write online. TSN probably still beats them from a broadcasting production point of view.

Yup, agreed. But if it comes down to Rielly and Gio with similar point totals I cringe which way the eastern media will lean.

Yea, precisely.

I knew what I was saying (games in hand) was incorrect but I thought people would understand what I was implying because I couldn't figure out a better/the right way to write it down until I thought about the basketball/baseball "Games Back" to compare it to

Rielly's offense thus far is incredibly unsustainable whereas Gio is playing much more sustainable offensive hockey on top of being 10× the defensive player Rielly is.

Rielly shouldn't really even be in the conversation with Gio

Flames deserved a better fate in this one. Every goal for the Lightning was a lucky bounce, a deflection, or a garbage goal in tight. Domingue won this one for the Lightning.
The Flames with that level of goaltending would be scary good. Credit to Rittich though, he has played well.

He was banging and involved but had no accuracy or moves. He was moved up to the top line, Peters gave him that. But he always shows a shot to the chest, maybe some grit to get to the front of the net but it just dies.

In the first period it was a three on one with Tkachuk breaking in and he quickly passed it to Bennett, and I knew then no pass was going to make it through to any other player, nor was there a snipe going through any hole.

Myself, just like Peters, has not seen any snipe of any corners, or unreal passes that deserve to be "shooter number 4-7" in that kind of game.

But thats just my opinion.

Bennett reminds me of Seabiscuit, he doesn't always look great out there but when he's up against a great team in an important game he really brings it (most of the time). He just seems like a big game player.

Agreed. To me, a shootout is like a hockey fight - exciting while it’s happening, and I hope a guy on our team wins it, but I’d be happier not to have either in the game.

They're awful. I bet the flames are still 15th on their power rankings because the people that write their content live in a tiny bubble in Toronto and all go to bed and close up shop before western conference games begin.

Oh you know. But its mainly cause they've seen 50+ games of Reilly and ~5 games of gio. A known commodity is easier to side with.

Best game of the year to watch. That was really fun, even with the loss. Flames should have won it in OT, but Domingue stood on his head. Really solid performance by the Tampa goaltender. This was a measuring stick game, and the Flames definitely measured up.

It felt so good getting to the 4th, 5th, & 6th guys, and there were still stud offensive players available. I love this team.

Probably because Bennett isn't a very good breakaway scorer. Most of Bennett's goals this year have been the dirty variety and come from the edge of the crease. Even last night's goal he had to jam in from a few inches from the goal line. I suspect that Peters does his picks based on who is the best at the shootout drill in practice, and then who's hot during the game. The only selection that had me scratching my head was Neal, but I think Peters saw that as an opportunity to get a sniper going. Instead, Neal goes in and tries to make a finesse move and accomplishes nothing.
