ABC has called Texas for Cruz. Bummer.
Kudos to Beto for making that race way closer than it should have been though. Dude ran a great campaign.

Repubs have held this seat since 1975 so this would be a great pickup

In local news:

For those interested in seeing what type of an impact Beto O’Rourke would have in Midland, the early voting results show Ted Cruz earned 78.53 percent of the vote. That is a higher percentage of the voter than Donald Trump earned in 2016.
|
I know that this hellhole of a town is hard core Republican, with rampant corruption, poor schools, and disastrous infrastructure, but these numbers are a complete shock to me.
Turnout here was huge, by historical comparison, and it led me to believe that Beto would get at least 40% of the vote (after all, there are a lot of youngish engineers here), but boy was I wrong.
Or perhaps the voting machines were rigged.....

They just mentioned this in the 538 blog, but all of the House flips have been Dems and all of the Senate flips have been Repubs.

No - but right now its helping a lot and when you're not doing well, you can't look five years down the road. You maybe look a few months ahead.
For the first time in a decade Average Joe is getting a wage increase and getting the number of hours worked that he wants to. Business and consumer confidence is back. And right or wrong trump gets the credit because of the messaging that all his initiatives - cut red tape, reduce regulations, cut taxes, end illigal immigration, make trade deals a better deal - would make the economy great again. And the economy is on fire - ergo, republicans are winning on the economy.
There is no blue wave. Because as morally bankrupt as the Republicans might be...the economy, stupid.

This is the dumbest thing I read all night. Thanks, I needed the chuckle.

So Dems control House, GOP controls Senate.
Kinda what I think most people thought would happen. That Beto loss still stings, that would have been glorious.

Sad to see that Beto didn’t win, but not too surprised. Beto did amazing anyways. Kudos to him.

Amendment 4 passes in Florida... given that it disproportionately affects African Americans that means that Democrats should have a bit better go there in two years time.

I was hoping for a stronger repudiation as most probably were.
And I fear a backlash if Dems go too far with trying to go after Trump.. Yes I know what's good for the goose should be good for the gander, and if Republicans can have Benghazi hearing after Benghazi hearing then why can't Dems.. I just don't think Dem voters are the same and will turn away if what Dems do have even a sniff of petty partisanship.
Investigate away, but make it all look ultra professional IMO.
