great, I wanted to talk about how I hope the celestials show up next movie and start hucking entire solar systems at Thanos, but clearly that's not gonna happen. buckle up, this is going to be ugly for a few pages.

No you're wrong.
The only idiot here is Thanos for not realizing that he's playing into Dr Strange's hand perfectly. He's too confident. He could have used the Time Stone and looked into the future to realize that this will all be undone (probably just partially?).
Thanos, despite all his might and awesomeness, is ultimately an idiot.

No need to step into a thread specific for this movie and call all of us idiots
Glad the mods acted on this troll post

you know what I'd like to see.
Thanos looked into the future and saw the one path.
the last scene has Stark and what's left fighting Thanos, and they beat him and Thanos laughs because he found a way to destroy the stones.
Then we see Stark and Thor grimly staring at each other as they realize they can't fix anything.
then the re-kickoff of the Marvel universe takes place in a alternate time line where the Avengers are earths greatest oppressors.

What you are getting is 3 hours of a ridiculous plot idea with larger then life characters, and a lot of people getting punched in the face, thrown through walls and kicked into orbit.
You're getting science that absolutely isn't real or debatable, a over the top scene stealing villain, and a rudimentary story line.
If you ran a check box on Infinity war, and there was an Oscar type award for big budget movies with tons of action, then Infinity Wars cleans up at that awards show.
If you go looking for deeper meaning, deeper conversation, sub text of try to compare it to movies like Natural Born Killers then of course you're going to hate this movie.
Watchman tried to be that movie and in retrospect, it really sucked.
There wasn't much to be disappointing about in this movie, except it didn't have a scene where two guys are having dinner and one of them is named Andre and they're having a horrible boring conversation and then they suddenly turn into dust.
Here's my grinder, and its on the parents, the ones who take young kids to these movies. I mean honestly I know you don't want to be spoiled,. but don't you kind of have a responsibility to your 5 or 6 or 7 year old to kind of vette this movie first.
I can't tell you how many kids were crying and really upset when Parker was fading and crying. Or when Groot turned to dust.
Come on people you have kids, you have an obligation to know what's coming.
|
As a person who took a 9 and 7 year old who left bawling I don't think that its a negative experience for them. Learning to deal with loss and tragedy is a part of life. And learning that movies are pretend and the consequences of a movie are meaningless relative to real life are teaching moments. Outside of a little bit too real of violence the overall plot certainly wasn't a problem for younger children.

The problem with the infinity stones, is that while they give you total power, they are also limited by the user. As along as the user exists as an individual, there's always going to be some way to defeat them.
I did feel like they over projected Dr. Strange finding a way to take Thanos down though. I feel like they could have handled that with a lot more subtlety.

At 10 and 12, your kids are old enough to be dropped off and picked up after. Or heck, even possibly go themselves. Are you sure that you don't just want to go so that you can go online after and yell at some clouds?

Watchmen actually toned down the "deeper meaning" a lot from the comic book source material. It's a different beast, in that it's a direct adaptation from a single story. Even Infinity War isn't a direct adaptation; it's more of an inspired by type scenario.
I really liked the Watchmen film, but also see why the appeal isn't as broad as the MCU.
I do think that you can explore deeper meaning within a superhero movie. For example, V for Vendetta dealt with a lot of political issues. Logan dealt with mortality. The Dark Knight dealt with the line between good and evil.

The Watchmen is also 10 years old basically and came out at a time where if they took the original content of the novel it probably wouldn't of been well received. I'd be curious on how that movie would look if it was created now with basically 10 years of really good comic movies out and Deadpool and Logan allowing them to go to that darker place.
But, It's a DC thing so they'd screw it up.

Lady Death would be too abstract and I think they would want to stay away from characters that have too much metaphysical/religious implications like Lady Death or Mephisto, etc. just because of some of the conservative American audience.
Maybe Lady Death could be some cosmic alien or force that loves death, not literally the embodiment of death like in the comics. That would work well with Deadpool since the whole deal is Lady Death is in love with Deadpool so that's one reason he can't ever die. They can play on that whole love triangle since Thanos is in love with Lady Death.

After completing The Last Jedi, Disney knew they made a terrible movie and used that billion dollars in advertisement money to pay off critics. With this movie they knew they had a near masterpiece and just let the critics do their work, maybe even a couple were salty they didn't get paid this time.
It's really the only explanation and therefore my head canon.

To be fair though Dormammu shows up in Dr. Strange. There is a metaphysical bit to some of these movies, especially with the mystic arts bit and now the soul stone.

Going by what happened he'd be a clone; Rocket took a twig of blown-apart Groot and planted that, so that'd be genetically identical to Groot. As opposed to if Groot grew flowers, was pollinated by a different member of his species, and grew a new Groot from a seed (which would have different DNA).

If liking the Avengers makes me an idiot, then I am a real huge idiot and mighty proud of it. Sliver, feel free to quote me here for posterity whenever you get back from wherever you are (scootering around Lake Bonavista judging others about everything, presumably).
A good buddy of mine at work doesn’t understand why people would like cartoon movies either. My dad is like that too actually. That’s ok, their loss IMO. It’s okay to let your guard down in life once in awhile and keep an open mind and even like stuff once in awhile. Unless it’s the Flames power play circa 2017-2018. Then that’s not allowed.

Oh wow are you ever wrong about My Dinner With Andre.
Also, with everyone thinking Dr. Strange has played some great trick on Thanos, I think we're all forgetting the way Loki - the God of Deception - pretty much sacrificed himself and handed over the Space Stone.
...
Or did he?
