Until a coach is actually hired, it's all still just speculation. We don't know what Treliving is actually doing (and based on their history, neither do the various media "insiders").
With the World Championships coming up, I wouldn't be surprised if Peters isn't hired anywhere until they're over.

All indications point to us needing it by about game 6 when we show up "unprepared" whilst out shooting and chancing the team 3 to 1.

I'm so tired of good underlying numbers! The scoreboard is the only thing that matters. We shouldn't be aiming for more of the same. The Oilers are a possession team too, and how's that working out?

Definitely excited to have renewed interest in game 1 this season, and if he's behind our bench let's hope that everyone here at least gives this guy half a season before readying the canon.
|
Meh. I've been disappointed too many times to for this give me any renewed interest.

Hey, I may not know who this Bill guy is, but I DO know that I hate him.

This might be more of a coaching tweak... maybe he views BP as a better leader and motivator than GG. I wonder if BT has a hand in who the special teams coaches are this season, because (as it has been said many times) if our PP was at least somewhat competent we'd probably still be playing right now.
|
No, we'd just all be a little less annoyed by the fact that we can keep talking about the underlying numbers without any tangible results. The PP didn't help matters but it wouldn't have amounted to an 11-12 point swing in the standings if it were even mediocre. You could tell this team was done in late Feb when they just reverted back to the same team they were the first few weeks under GG the year before.
I don't want to see this same flaccid system again - not only is it boring to watch, I think it is more suited to a team with a much higher skill level than the Flames currently possess on Forward. Peter's is the safe move to make imo and likely the one that is most likely to amount to the same or similar result.

Well I was going to come in and be all "meh, not sure about this", but after reading so much negativity for some highly suspect reasons, I have no choice but to be overwhelmingly positive about this for two reasons: 1) to balance out the disappointment/anger/hatred that have occurred before the guy has even been hired, and 2) to piss off all those people who are already so easily pissed off. So here we go...
Yay! I love Peters! I think he's going to be that tonic that cures the problems of the Flames. Lacking motivation? Peters is a great motivator! Playing too passive? Peters' wants lots of pressure on the puck carrier to gain the puck back as soon as possible! Not sure of Peters' results? Single-handedly sunk by budget roster and horrible goaltending! Penalty killing a problem? Peters' teams have had some of the best PK numbers in the league! You all wanted AV (me included)? AV says he hates Calgary and had never planned on coming here in a million years!
Whatever. I can sit here and say this is a lateral move from the GM based on desiring a particular style of play, or I can wait to see what else we do to improve the roster and get more out of the existing group in the upcoming year. All I know is that one of those attitudes will make me miserable and one will make me relatively happy and hopeful. I guess it comes down to how you want to live life.

Peter
verb (used without object), peter out
1.
to diminish gradually and stop; dwindle to nothing:
The hot water always peters out in the middle of my shower.
2.
to tire; exhaust (usually used as a past participle):
I'm petered out after that walk.
The jokes are gonna write themselves after fifty shots / no goal nights.

I've come back from being disappointed a ton of times in my tenure as a Flames fan.
This year was a special level of disappointment, and I think removing GG was the right call to rectify this. I'll be giving whoever is coaching a renewed passion for the game, but I really hope his 'system' is at least more entertaining to watch than the GG years.

If anybody has season tickets front row I would like to purchase tickets to a game. If Peters is hired I feel I can afford to take the boy next season.

And he wasn't the first coach who threw the team's goalie under the bus, Tortarella did it when he was coaching the Lightning.

Someone should put up some evidence that #1. AV would actually come here. #2 Sutter would actually come here. #3 Peters isn’t the right guy.
For all CP nay sayers say, no one here has any insight. It’s as likely to me that AV has already told TRE no Effie way. Or, will require 5-6 mill per year. Anyway, I just proved my point. I know nothing factual and I’m betting 99% of you don’t either.

Meh if true, as one of the posters said if he surrounds himself with great assistants he will be fine. People have to remember if the powerplay was clicking this thread wouldn't even be here and GG would still be coaching the Flames.

Peters is known as a straight shooting honest guy that does not tip toe around issues. I can get behind this. Hell, a good part of my interest in Sutter is for this reason.
