I would love nothing more than for him to succeed, and make me look like a complete dumbass.
I'll remain hopeful if/when he's hired this summer, but I'm sure I'll also remain sour over missing out on AV, Sutter, and potentially Trotz.

Who's to say that Treliving isn't talking to more than one coach at the moment? It's gonna be hilarious seeing all these media guys eat crow when AV or Sutter is hired by the Flames, and Peters takes a job in Ottawa or Dallas.
Wishful thinking, I know. But a man can dream.

He was the assistant coach. HockeyDB only puts the records for Head Coaches, for some reason.

Why not fish around a bit in the big name pool?
Why is he so intently focused from the get go on an unproven NHL coach that is eerily similar to the last one in terms of accolades?
Would like to hear why this particular guy is THE guy to bring wins to the team when he hasn't been able to do it with another young talented team in 4 attempts.

Peters resigned as coach of the Canes an hour ago.

Maybe Sutter and AV told him to pound sand and he's looking at the next best option. There is no evidence that BT is only looking at Peters just a bunch of media speculation to get hits

Is this one rumor with all the "experts" reporting because the others report it? Probably a single source. I remember a couple of years ago these guys were all reporting Bruce Boudreau was going to be the coach.

I think Tre might be hiring Peters because his style is not incredibly different to GG. I remember reading somewhere that on avg it takes a team 20 or so games to adjust to a new coach. Perhaps BT is trying to avoid this adjustment phase as much as possible - a 20 game adjustment would be a disaster for the season and BT would potentially be fired. This might be more of a coaching tweak... maybe he views BP as a better leader and motivator than GG. I wonder if BT has a hand in who the special teams coaches are this season, because (as it has been said many times) if our PP was at least somewhat competent we'd probably still be playing right now.

I don't understand how people are so able to write this guy off.
As I see it, here are the positives:
-over the past 4 seasons, his team has had the worst PDO (bad save % and bad shooting %) in the NHL and the second highest CF% in the NHL
-last season, in particular, the underlying numbers (CF%, FF%, SF%, SC%, HDSC%) were great
-has a great reputation in coaching circles and amongst media, even chose for World Cup of Hockey staff
-has done winning internationally and in CHL
-had done a great job at developing young defensemen
-defensive zone structure and structured break outs
As I see it, here are the negatives:
-has never made the playoffs as an NHL head coach(!!!)
-did not make it past the first round in the AHL playoffs
-his teams consistently had bad SH%, for whatever reason
-Commodore says Carolina's players tuned him out after four years and he is not fun to play with
-not as good at developing young forwards as developing young defensemen

I don't think you can say Carolina was a young talented team. Ward has been slipping for years, Darling and Lack have never been starters.
On forward they don't have a Gaudreau, Monahan, or Tkachuk. Aho was pretty good this year, but a skilled, small play maker can only do so much by himself and he is not on Gaudreau's level. Skinner has had a few good years, but tends to be inconsistent in his compete level over the course of a season. After that I'm not seeing much on that team- they lack serious depth up front (which I think is a problem for Calgary right now as well).
On defense you can make an argument that they are young and talented, but I think a lot of that is still potential. Slavin and Pesce seem to get recognized as really good, young defensemen that could develop into studs. Maybe Peters should get some credit there?
I believe Gio and Hamilton are already studs so it could be interesting to see what Peters does with them. Maybe he can get Brodie playing like the old Brodie again?
These things are unpredictable, but we will see.

That was never the case. Eric Francis reported it. Big difference.

The only way I would be happy if Bill Peters came to calgary is if he came in as an assistant coach. Like "Burke is out. Sutter comes in as coach for a couple years before heading up stairs as President of Hockey Ops. And then Peters gets promoted from assistant coach to head coach"

Troy Brouwer had 8 points in 5ahlgames under Peters. That's the real reason we're going after him. Gotta get the Brouwerplay clicking.

He has some old school mentality to him, which admittedly i like, even if im really not sure he is the right guy.
