For crying out loud, get Brouwer and Brodie off the damn powerplay. Brouwer legit just hangs out the side of the net, and oh Brodie has it. pass, pass, pass passs. Remember the game where you scored 2 goals by shooting? where is that brodie? Stone has the best one timer on the team, yet he never get's the chance to use it. He needs to be on the PP.

Are you kidding me?

From body language I got the strong impression that Gulutzan is convinced his system is sound and the players are simply not executing. I didn't see it this clearly until tonight.

This whole notion going into the year that we had a top 3 defence in the league is absolutely laughable at this point.
On paper sure maybe we looked great but we are a dumpster fire in our own end as a team. Smith has an off night and you see the result.

didnt watch the game as i figured the Flames would make the Oilers look like the 80's Oilers. not sure how a team that missed the playoffs for 11 years until last year and then is one of the worst teams this year can be in the heads of the Flames. Then when i saw McDavid had 1 assist and this soft horribly overrated defense gave up 7? glad i didnt watch it. Watching Vancouver play makes me long for a real coach, that is a team without a great roster working hard, the flames are so soft. Smith must feel like he hasnt left Arizona

Gulutzan sceptical of his team's ability to rise to the occasion "what concerns me is, really with this group, is the mental side of the game is that fight, flight or freeze mentality and we seem to freeze a bit until something good happens and then we can start to move”
|
Doesn't that fall on you Glen?? You freeze at the moment the momentum starts to shift and putting the 3rd & 4th paring lines out there. He's so god damn boneheaded that his d-pairings are junk.

Smith should have had the Leetwhatsu/ Khiara whatever goal, but the other ones he had no chance on. Tip ins, deflections, guys left right in front poaching. This team is 100% on the guys infront of him playing like garbage.

What can they do? Instead of some muscle and purpose they decided to put skilled goal scorers on the fourth line

I don't think our lineup is the problem I really don't. Maybe we are not a top 5 team but we sure as heck are not this bad.

My point was that he wasn’t standing on his head tonight like usual and therefore you see the results. I’m certainly not blaming him for the loss.

Too many soft slow players on this team. They need to somehow get faster and bigger.

I said in the game thread he should have taken a timeout at 4-1 to settle them down. So why is he not doing things like that which have been proven tactics in the game for decades? You can't complain about the team freezing if you are taking no action to get them out of it. This passive coaching approach is horrendous. If he had taken that timeout guess what...we'd have a win and far less people would be questioning his job right now.

This drives me nuts. Why the hell doesn't he settle the boys down with a timeout? Is there no preparation in the pregame done by the coaches?

Not only that, GG basically says as much when interviewed.
Gee, maybe if we don't play the system more often than we do play it, perhaps the system is either not a good system or it is too detailed to execute consistently or it is not a system that suits the players.
I hear far too often on this board "yeah but when we play the system, we play great".
What good is a system that does not consistently produce the same product on the ice or the same results on the ice? I am sorry, but the Flames are drowning playing this so called system that GG wants them to play.

I’ve sat behind the Flames bench’s few times. Last year against CLB and commented on here back then how much Torts and his coaches interact with each other and the players, and how GG, PJ and Cameron are church mice with each other and the players on the bench.
Saw the same a few weeks back with the Blues from the Flames trio.
Cameron and Jerrard aren’t getting nearly enough heat...Preston, Playfair and Lowry over the years got roasted as assistants.
If these guys are going to stick to the system that provides average results and isn’t utilizing the talents of the talented players they have been given, and play a game of stare stare down the roster, waiting for the players to blink first, they are going to lose that game and I think you can see them already losing that battle.
At very least you’d like to see some fire and brimstone. Closest GG got was on that train ride last year, but that’s a below average day for a D.Sutter. These players need a public kick in the butt on occasion. Sutter can do that (Hartley did too but his yelling got stale quickly, as happens with a coach that doesnt have the proven track record of league success) and do that efficiently and effectively, and his methods almost pulled the Flames to a Cup and got two for LA.
