One thing I definitely agree with is that the problem starts with the mind, not the body. Which is why "systems" and "diets" and such are ultimately failures, because at best you're displacing one obsessive set of behaviours with another. However, that is really back to my point - you're not going to lose weight unless you are mentally tough enough to realize it's not going to be easy, that there isn't any magic formula to do it, and that you aren't special or different from the vast majority who are also overweight or have been so.
I'm not saying all fat people are lazy and lack willpower, what I am saying is that being fat is a choice - perhaps an unconscious one, perhaps an inevitable one - but still a choice. If it's better to be fat and happy then thin and miserable, then by all means go that route - only you can decide how you want to live your life. However, there are going to be social downsides to that, because people (including me) are shallow, superficial and judgmental creatures, and you have to decide for yourself if you can deal with that and love yourself as you are and not how others would prefer you be.
