One thing I definitely agree with is that the problem starts with the mind, not the body. Which is why "systems" and "diets" and such are ultimately failures, because at best you're displacing one obsessive set of behaviours with another. However, that is really back to my point - you're not going to lose weight unless you are mentally tough enough to realize it's not going to be easy, that there isn't any magic formula to do it, and that you aren't special or different from the vast majority who are also overweight or have been so.

I'm not saying all fat people are lazy and lack willpower, what I am saying is that being fat is a choice - perhaps an unconscious one, perhaps an inevitable one - but still a choice. If it's better to be fat and happy then thin and miserable, then by all means go that route - only you can decide how you want to live your life. However, there are going to be social downsides to that, because people (including me) are shallow, superficial and judgmental creatures, and you have to decide for yourself if you can deal with that and love yourself as you are and not how others would prefer you be.

Do you consider a child having choice when it comes to their obesity, I of course don't disagree as adults we are fully responsible for ourselves but when it comes to kids are you saying that obese children have only themselves to blame because of bad choices?

Yes, and they should be kept in cells and forced to power our homes by running on treadmills until they are deemed to be thin enough to be released back into society.

Or possibly it's implicit that when discussing free will and choice, the arguments rarely apply to children (or the insane, who are surprisingly similar to children in so many ways) as they have both diminished capacity to understand their choices and an even more circumscribed ability to implement choices that go against the dictates of the figures placed in authority over them.
