With Feaster watching the Frozen Four does anyone think Feaster may be scouting some college free agents? Antoine Laganiere is a senior centre who plays for Yale and Hobey Baker candidate Senior centre Drew LeBlanc are both playing. The Flames are at 47 contracts and could offer immediate playing time.

Weisbroad used this term in interviews just after he got here, and I have been surprised that I haven't heard it more from the org. I have been thinking about this a lot the last couple of weeks, that it was obvious they have made the decision to move away from the post-apex core.
Translation: we need to get younger.

After trading Iginla, Bouwmeester, and for the first time in franchise history going into a draft with multiple first round picks, you proclaim it is business as usual? Ok then.
With all due respect, it is you who is spewing crap.

And 1 of those 6 guys is in the CHL. Times have undoubtedly changed for the Calgary Flames.

I'm getting sick of Dreger's condescending attitude whenever he talks about this team.

Well in fairness, you called anti-calgary bias in January because they predicted the Flames to be in 14th place.... truth hurts sometimes.

I don't expect praise, but if he's going to act like this, just come out and say it.
He just hints at his true feelings whenever he mentions the Flames, and everyone has a little chuckle.

I figure Dreger is one of the nicer ones... It seems there is an extra hate on for this organization. I guess they are just happy there that its not the Leafs anymore, as they share the same boss.
No biggie. In 12-24 months they'll move on to the Canucks.

It's been discussed before, the Flames don't provide scoops or info to the media, compared to the other teams like the Oilers who welcome them in with open arms (see Oil Change).
That's why the media doesn't like the Flames. That and also the fact that they are an easy target because they suck.

So many insane conclusions being drawn in this thread.
|
Conclusions being drawn based on a 2.5 year history of press conferences that Feaster has given that at times have seemed more interested in saying what was required to calm the fans at the time, then actually what he believed would happen, or, as has turned out in some cases, has come anywhere close to happening.
To this end, his definition of "post apex player" I believe will be a moving target as the summer goes on.

At least those posters have concerns that somewhat mirror reality much better than the large segment that use CP as gathering place to talk about how grat this management team bringing the team into a bottom 5 finish and never making the play-offs is all the while making up garbage excuses for Feaster and how pathetic he has been.
I also knew the usual suspects who would be spinning this as some BS positive sign for the team. They certainly delivered.

With teams pairing down their rosters with compliance buyouts I heard Feaster talking about going after players whose entry level contracts have expired. To me that sounds alot different than in the past where went went after aging vets.

I hate the current Flames.
The mgmt is an embarrassment. The team composition is discordant and makes no sense.
A small skilled soft team is one i can not get behind. Since the eighties i have liked my flames big and mean. After the dark ages of the late nineties, the team i loved came back with daryl sutter. Since then it seems like they are obsessed with becoming smaller and more east-westy. They look like a bunch of fools passing forever, avoid net pressure etc.
I can't abide by this. Its embarrassing.
When they come to their senses they can have my money again.

The team could end up going in either direction - too early to tell. That being said I tend to look for the positives and try to have an upbeat attitude going forward. The same applies to the way I live my life.
If people want to predict gloom and doom for this team - go right ahead. What I don't understand is why people would choose to be so negitive about this team when there is still a draft to held and the upcoming UFA frenzy and compliance buyouts. Why not wait until next September before predicting gloom and doom?

Don't worry, we're going to be the talk of the town and the envy of all 29 other teams in exactly 88 days. Not to mention teams are going to come at the Flames salesmen-style for one of our 1st rounders. By then, Dreg and his TSN brethren are going to be saying just how dangerous we're going to be after we pick Top 3 and scoop up two highly-rated prospects that will keep the Flames going for years.

This management team has given the fans plenty of reasons to be concerned and zero reasons to be positive.
FA season is a terrifying prospect since that is a terrible way to build a team and great way to overpay your way into 10th place.
If there were positives here that would be great but just don't see them with the current morons we have in hockey operations.

Do we get a show on Sportsnet about our rebuild too? What would ours be called? "Fire Sale"? Not quite the same ring to it as "Oil Change".
