With that comment and what feaster said the last few days, I have a feeling we're going to be going after some more veteran UFA's this summer.
|
Feaster also said, in the very same press conference, they won't be going after post-apex players.
So many insane conclusions being drawn in this thread.

I liked the way players were handled - it makes the organisation sound like a good place for a player - you'll be respected if you give to the organisation. They've looked after Iggy, Kipper and Boumeester as best they could whileachieving most of the objectives for the rebuild or whatever the rething is to be called.

Feaster never should have listed this team's "untouchables". Think about how all the "touchables" feel now?
I hate that.

I guess we know why the flames got back 4 bodies and 2 picks instead of the other way around.
Quickest turnaround possible, not best turnaround possible.

I have no idea how some people think that the press conference means that Feaster is going to trade away all our prospects/draft picks for veterans?
|
Also he specifically said that he's not going to be trading for "post-apex" players, and have a mandate to go younger now. How is that being construed as trading away the future to try to make the playoffs next year??

Are you people really crying/whining now about the owner telling the GM that he wants to make the playoffs next year?
If you were owner, would you tell your GM that it's fine if the team doesn't make the playoffs?
This forum has gone crazy.

After re-listening to it...
"Goal to make the playoffs" doesn't necessarily mean they feel they're in playoff contention. That's just the upside goal. It would have been much worse to hear the goal was to win the cup, at least they're being realistic with a goal.
I think the target still needs to be to turn this team around & head in a new direction. The goal of making the playoffs while doing that is fine by me. They'll still want to sell tickets afterall.

Feaster clarifying his comments right now on the FAN960 about making the playoffs next year. Basically (paraphrasing), he and ownership don't want to use the team's new direction as an excuse for the players not to strive to win and make the playoffs. Not to "let players off the hook", not using the lack of Iginla and Bouwmeester as an excuse for sucking.
That along with Feaster and Weisbrod saying theyre not interested in players that are "post apex" means that they're looking at getting younger and building something new.
Everyone can relax.

After the crap that Feaster has spewed out for three seasons, I don't see how it could possibly be insane to conclude that it's business as usual for the Flames.

I am glad to hear Feaster say that while 25+ teams asked about Glencross, he did not even ask about what they would offer. This team at least appears committed to their players, and seems to be honourable.
As for next year's marching orders... well, what else are they going to say?

This.
Feaster expanded on the "make the playoffs". Essentially it is the mentality not to accept failure. Once you embrace failure that is the expectation. Basically they don't want to support a losing culture.

And have they made any moves like that yet? NO! I didn't see us trading for any old vets today, did you? Maybe you missed this part of his quote:

But no, lets freak out about stuff that hasn't even happened yet.

I just hope we don't trade away one or more of our first rounders to get a player in order to "make the playoffs" next year.Unless that player is a young stud.

Again on the radio right now he's talking about that the expectation of the coaching staff and the players and our young guys is that we expect to be performing at the very top of our ability, and miring in 15th and not caring about it will just bring a philosophy of failure to the team that will take years to remove.

Feaster has the worst lawyer talk in the world. Unless he's talking about NHL 14. Flames definitely should make it in then.
