Now tell me if I am wrong, but I am sure I read somewhere before that once a player waives a NTC, it is no longer in effect for that contract, so for Iggy, Pittsburgh doesn't actually have one for him right now. I am not sure if thats correct or not, but I am sure I have read it

Man, it really feels like the off season now. I know in previous years the Flames were always pretty much out of it.. but at the end of the day as a fan I always thought, why not, we can make it. It's a beautiful day out, sun shining, and it just feels like the NHL season is over and that's it, pack it in.
I don't have anything to add besides waxing poetic here but it's an odd feeling to be "selling".

Although, I'm not particularly happy with the flames management Feast inherited a pretty #### situation and has done an OK job dealing with it. Our prospect base is steadily improving and we are actually starting a legitimate rebuild.
I agree that to maximize value Iginla should have been traded 2-3 years when it was becoming clear to fans that the Flames need to rebuild and didn't have the pieces to retool. However, after the Boston-Pittsburgh fiasco last night I think it is painfully obvious that the ball on being traded was always in Iginla's court.

This "fiasco" is a result of media jumping the gun. Nothing more.

I agree with the sentiment that Bouwmeester ends up in Detroit. He'll be a great addition there. Another first rounder coming back and maybe a roster player too would be fantastic.
If the flames had two late first rounders they could use those to move up the draft.

Let's focus on some top prospects with this trade instead of just anyone on a college hockey team.

I would love for Columbus to try to shore up for a possible playoff drive with Bouwmeester and trade two of their three first rounders for this years draft.

Isn't that when you should trade him?
The Flames are a bad team with him and will be a bad team without him. It's time to maximize the returns while we can. I really don't care who plays his minutes, anyone honestly.

Unless he picks up his game and plays like the next Bobby Orr (a title which I believe has already been reserved for The Great Justin Schultz), it doesn't help the rest of this miserable team in terms of winning a Stanley Cup.
He's playing well, the Flames are out of it, time to sell high instead of letting our assets depreciate to the point of having no value like we have so many times now. There will be no better time to move him.

If Iginla wasn't willing to be moved until this year at this time, then how is management to blame for not doing it sooner?
And if they didn't approach him, well, that's another story then.
|
well nothing has ever been leaked about Iginla being asked to waive his NMC before this year. and just look at the moves Feaster has made, they've all been about trying to make the Flames a playoff team, not rebuilding

hahaha, dammit.
Honestly though, I wonder if Erixon has learned anything from all this. If I put my Flames-hate aside for him it wouldn't be a bad return at all, depending on which first I suppose. He's looked okay this year, no?

who cares? the Flames aren't winning with or without Bouwmeester, and he's too old to be part of any rebuild (and too un-winning to be a veteran presence for young guys)

I like bouw, re-sign him at a discount and keep him.
