So that means that the good teams are just beating up on the bad teams? We played 1 period vs San Jose and 1 vs Anaheim. If we are a playoff team, then we have to eat good teams.

I agree. After the next 10 games most teams should know if they are buying or selling.

You add in the fact that 8 of the remaining 38 games are the second half of back to back games, a situation where the average team in the NHL goes about 3-5, if you assume the Flames will perform at a rate similar to an average team and they have to go 20-10 in the other 30 games to have a chance at 8th if history is any indication as to what it will take to make the playoffs.

and do we really want to hope for a miracle to make it to 8th place? honestly...before the season I was thinking we would have to be securely in the playoff spot or should be selling

Yeah, they need to kick it up another notch ASAP or the season's toast, simple as that.

Either way, there will be something to be excited for.

I'm leaning more towards a very, very good draft day for us, though.

The fact that the whole league is dealing with many back to back games as a result of the shortened season is worth noting.

Every team is going to be dog tired closing out the season so that really levels the playing field to an extent.

This board is really kind of funny.
1/2 the posters want to trade away the team's aging stars to guarantee a high draft pick.
The same 1/2 of the posters are upset that the team is looking to place poorly without trading the aging stars.

I for one find it pretty humorous.

That is the reason why some posters think the Flames are in a very bad spot. They have played the least amount of back to back games of any team in the league so far and they have failed to capitalize. The unfortunate thing for the Flames is that the evening out part works against them from here on out.

For instance, the Flames have 9 back to back games this year, they have played 1 so far. The Oilers for the sake of argument have 9 as well but they only have 7 left. It is not a huge difference but it is still a difference, one where the Flames have played less than pretty much any other team.

I think it's a wash at the end of the day. It's a very small difference to be dwelling on.

You sure seem concerned about how other people spend their time. Why do you care anyway? If a certain % of the fanbase is pissed, let them be. I personally would rather see some anger and frustration from the fans than the perpetual rose coloured glasses syndrome.

Exactly, games in hand are nice and all but Calgary has to play catch up now with the most compressed schedule in the league

Lots of fans seem incapable of taking injuries in to account. One of the more bafflng aspects of sports fandom.

^ you realize there's a difference between negativity and proactive thinking/objective analysis and prediction of outcomes based on statistical trends right? The holier than thou posters are getting tiresome, you can just not say anything because unlike the people trying to see what's wrong with the team you have to criticize us for doing so, if anyone has a problem here it's you.

if our team has the most games missed due to injury twice in 2 seasons one would have to conclude that it's indicative of a deeper problem with the team. We statistically have the fewest hits and the fewest penalties of any team this year. Statistically our injury woes lend credence to the fact that we may not be tough enough.
