I'm sorry, I guess it's kind of difficult for us to review something we don't even have yet.

Actually, if I wrote a review right now that said the Retina display puts it on par with the iPhone 4s, but is a bigger deal because of the larger display (and sets the standard for all mobile devices, can't wait until its in a Macbook Air, blah blah blah), that the extra weight and thickness were not noticeable after a couple hours use, that all my apps ran perfectly and looked fantastic, and that I was unable to fully test the LTE wireless chipset because of a lack of LTE, that would be pretty close to what we're gonna say anyways, right?

Don't forget the obligatory video of some guy capitalizing on the iPad's popularity so he can sell more blenders.

Shipped now, should still arrive for Friday apparently.
And just so I'm not just adding to the horrible "shipping status" updates . . . I hear analysts already figure about 1 million will be sold by the end of the day Friday. That'll be more than what most other tablets have sold to date (often after a year.) For giggles, I'd guess even more than one million sold - not just shipped like so many companies like to claim.
At this pace of hardware sales and the huge app/software/media environment, I wonder if this is the year that people will look back at and see companies quitting the tablet market all together.

I was one of the folks that delayed ordering till Thursday afternoon so mine won't ship till the 19th.
Quick question for those that have read hands on previews/reviews...will current apps (re: non-retina display apps) look bad on the device? Will they fill the whole screen or just have a border around the whole app? I don't remember how non-retina apps looked on the iPhone 4 when it came out.
Also, is it hard for developers to adjust their apps to retina display? Again, based on iPhone 4 apps it seemed that eventually everything was retina. It seems that in this case the iPad has an even higher resolution than most PCs use.

Not sure how iphone apps will scale to the iPad "HD" but I would imagine that iPad to iPad HD would be fairly decent. With the doubling of pixels on both axes, a single pixel on a normal iPad app should be exactly 4 pixels on the new one.
I could be totally wrong in practice though, who knows.

iPad to iPad HD should be completely transparent - the 4 HD pixels occupy the same physical space as the old sized single pixel, since the screen dimensions are the same.

ALL ABOARD!

I would worry about purchasing a 16 gig model with the size of the apps that will be released for it. Magazines like Wired are already 350+MB. If apps start taking up that much space as well you'll run out of space fairly quickly.

Yeah. The size of apps is going to skyrocket. Even Tweetbot is tripling in size for high res graphics

No doubt. 350mb for a word processor? That's not even taking into account if you want to take or edit HD video with it.

Yeah. Space on my 16GB iPhone is slowly disappearing.
