Stock for all models looks to be finally knocked back to "2-3 weeks" in Canada and the UK. I assume they have more numbers allocated to the US store at this stage.

Consider how interest and demand seems to be quite high, I'm a little surprised it even took this long. Really curious how many they push out the first weekend/this quarter.

First, you can only use the "personal hotspot" on an iPhone 4 or 4s. If you have a 3gs, you need to do what I did: jailbreak and use MyWi.

And Russic is right. If you do have a 4 or 4s, Rogers allows free tethering via the built in "personal hotspot" if your data plan is 1gb/month or more. And Bell has the same.

I have personal hotspot with my 3gs... I'm w/ fido and have the 6gig plan

I don't have my 3G anymore so I can't verify but I'm about 99% sure I used personal hotspot (no jailbreak) on my 3G.

You were probably bluetooth tethering in that case - the wifi hotspot functionality, where the phone can support wifi tethering of multiple devices simultaneously is only available in the iPhone 4:

Ah yes, it was "Internet Tethering", not "Personal Hotspot"

And if you can find one. The most of the online stores are sold out for the initial release dates. They're now indicating 2-3 weeks even for the US; I imagine demand is still quite high.

Just so people aren't confused, it's still called "personal hotspot" in your settings but it uses bluetooth.

Heh. The one I ordered as a gift says it shipped yesterday and should arrive on the 16th. The one I ordered for myself says it is still in processing. Don't know which is worse. Good that the one I am giving away will arrive in time before the person leaves. But I want mine to play with.

I am glad you asked! It will most likely be in a sealed white box. Say iPad on the front and have a picture of the device on it as well.
