Burgers can be amazing, and it really isn’t hard to make them better than an average one at a restaurant.
Hand made patty
Good meat-bun ratio
Patty must cover at least the surface area of the bun
Bun should be on the lighter side, none of this brioche crap
Fresh toppings and crisp tomatoes (soggy tomatoes ruin a burger)
Hearty amount of cheese
Sauces to preference
Bonus points for bacon and onion rings

Agreed. I don't understand the brioche, sour dough and Kaiser bun type trend for burgers. It's like having a leathery or difficult to chew bread for a burger.
Dinner buns are great if you want soft and fluffy. A home made bread/bun is great too. Something denser is fine but not if it's annoyingly hard to tear.

No, but I will now when I'm in the area. Although that is uncommon.

I'm just very sad for you now. Although maybe this is a good thing; you still have time to experience good burgers and find out what you've been missing all this time.

Dinner buns are perfect for me, and they soak up lots of the juices from the burger. 10/10 that’s the way to go. A tougher bun just takes away from the burger itself.

Well fata me, now I want to try a Boston pizza burger.
Why can’t I get a small vertical burger ? I hate those layered ones massive things you can’t fit in.
I like the burger like the ladies. No flabby jubbly boobs. Tight sleek, players sports burger.

I'd say to my in-laws "you conquered the world for spices, but still cook like this?"

It is...unbelievable.
The only thing I can think of is that they cooked the ever-loving #### out of everything and then masked it with....like salt and saffron or something? I have no idea.
Maybe they sold all the spices and left none for themselves?
Oh yes. Dinners at the in-laws are kind of rough.
And whats more, he had no issue sending back food at a restaurant...you could bounce that chicken off the wall its so rubbery and tough. That steak could double as a weapon! You're going to need a chainsaw to cut through that.
Not cooked enough!!
What are you worried about? E-Coli or the faint possibility of flavour?

Milk bun especially good with a burger.

I looked it up and it seems like it's only a few ingredients away from beer bun/bread that I like making.

Yeah, dude. Basically a Jamie Oliver recipe with a couple of minor alterations. Always with a lightly toasted Cobb's bun.

Too sweet for a burger in my opinion. The only thing worse would be a Hawaiian roll. I tried those once for burgers and will never do it again.

Spices in the meat is tasty. But I don't get around to make them from scratch as much much as I like.
The other burger you posted with bruschetta is interesting. I'll have to give it an experiment one day.

Slightly sweet bun means I can go heavier on the cheese, spices and smoke without it tasting too overwhelming.

Not to defend BP’s food (it’s not good). Just agreeing that convenience and familiarity are decisive factors for a lot of people when it comes to eating out. Especially the two groups I cited earlier - old people and families with young kids. It would take a very atypical couple to load their 3 and 5 year old into the minivan on a Thursday night and drive from Woodlands to Noble Pie for dinner. And most middle-class couples in their 60s or 70s are going to be more comfortable walking into a familiar BP with the hockey game on the background than being seated in Mercato with its white tablecloths and fine-dining vibe.
|
Fair points all around. Suburbs should have more independent spots with better food. But, there is no reason for BP prices being comparable to downtown trendy spots
