Well this is the great thing. At Coop you get to buy 5/10 compostable bags, so you have an extra few to add to your waste.

They didn’t have any single bags at the checkout and I didn’t feel like hunting around for them. I happily paid the 15 cents for the compostable bags back when they were conveniently located at the place where you bag your groceries. But they’ve removed those.

They're not allowed to offer those anymore.

I'd have just put the bananas in a produce bag and used that.
I've also got unusual anatomy, and was born with 2 hands, so that would have worked as well. But I understand not everyone has that advantage.

I've taken to storing them in the door map pocket of my vehicle. Much more convenient than using reusable cloth bags, and they're far more compact.

In fairness, this is a direct impact to us and one of the few things that are actually under our influence as Calgarians. I personally laugh at how much time and energy people put into arguing in the Israel / Palestine thread where their opinions are worth two drops of mosquito urine in the ocean in terms of influencing that conflict / outcome.

Psh. If you can't afford leather seats in your car, you probably can't afford McDonalds in the first place.

Infiniti is the entry-level car required for McDonalds.
For Slava; of course useless f--king Penner voted no.

All you need to know about this bylaw is the usual suspects are out only attacking politicians, journalists, and citizens who are against it rather than actually defending the policy of the bylaw. Because the bylaw isn't really defensible.

So is this a full repeal, or just some of the less sensible bits?
I honestly don't have much of an issue with a lot of it. There are viable alternatives to plastic in a lot of cases, and those should be encouraged instead of penalized.
I'm OK with banning/taxing/discouraging/penalizing plastic single use items when alternatives exist. But grouping plastic along with paper bags, napkins, compostable bags like Co-op, etc. is missing the mark and ultimately led to its downfall. I know that single use paper products also has an environmental impact, but it is still much better than plastic.
I think that most people can get behind the idea that we need to cut down on plastic. If they had kept the focus on that, it would've been a lot harder to argue against it.

Has nothing to do with the plastic ban (which is federal), this goes after the bylaw crafted by CoC to be as useless and annoying as possible.

I already defend it by noting it made me think twice over whether I actually need a bag in all circumstances.
Some of you are debasing yourselves and looking like spoiled children over a 15 cent bag. I’m embarrassed for you.
