What part of that don’t you get?

I get it but if you think two late 1sts are a good return for Tkachuk I don't agree there.

If the Blues want Tkachuk badly enough to outbid every other team in free agency, they will get him. There's no point in sending out big assets before then.
|
Exactly how does he get bigger money though? He would have to play out the year and risk missing out on a very good 8-year deal now. As you said, he likes money, so I don't think he takes that risk. Unless he has supreme confidence that he can stay healthy and replicate his 100 point season right now.

if chuck goes too i think flames lose a lot of money from ticket cancellations, im hoping tre is looking at chuck as our captain and heart of the team, tell him how important he is give the money a player like that deserves. I'm excited to see chuck playing with the confidence of knowing he's the best player.
Losing johnny doesn't mean throw in the towel and rebuild, we can still make some chess moves with suggestions from Daryl and build a cup winner, they (hopefully) learned from the playoffs and the valuable experience players like shilly got will help (hopefully shilly is training hard with a skating coach and working on balance and 1 timerslol)

But what makes you think that the Blues are willing to give him the 8-year deal he wants? They would have to trade significant assets to acquire him, and also to clear the cap space to pay him.
If he wants a big 8-year deal now, he can only get it from the Flames. That's the nature of being a restricted free agent. If he wants to gamble on a bigger 7-year deal a year from now, he will have that right. That's the nature of being an unrestricted free agent.

They can prioritize it now. They can set internal deadlines. They can ask him if he wants a trade or he wants to be the captain of the Calgary Flames.
There are lots of things they can Do to protect themselves against a repeat of the Gaudreau fiasco.

What they cannot do is simply sign a contract at $9.76 million x 8 years on your say-so, which is what you appeared to be demanding. Whatever they do, I don't expect you to be pleased with it.

You're right. I guess there would have to be talks between Tkachuk and the Blues to get assurances before giving up such assets. And there's no such news from insiders as you said.

If I was Tkachuk I would take $9.5 but on a 4 or 5 year deal and sign 8 years at age 28/29. By then the cap will be going up and he could get 8 x $12 mil

I think what happened to Gaudreau should be a wake up call for him, rarely things happen the way you envisioned.

I think something like that is a definite possibility.
Though I'm not as sanguine as some people about the future of the cap. The broadcasting industry is melting down, hockey fans are an aging demographic, and Covid seems to have put a permanent damper on some people's desire to go out to crowded venues for entertainment. I suspect that professional sports generally are due for an economic correction.

Don’t trust this tweet but would be interesting if true. Assuming it is true it would give me 2 thoughts. They offered the C to Tkachuk and Backlund doesn’t agree or they are signing Kadri and Backlund doesn’t want to play bottom 6. Could also be he doesn’t like Sutter?
Most likely it is pure BS

Or maybe he just wants to go somewhere else to win because our best player just left the team?

I would be fine with it being true only because I think Backlund is overpaid and is streaky. Every year he seems to take the first part of the year off. He has also been here a long time and moving him out would help change the culture of not winning. I am not sure who is lining up for him at his salary though.

He’s probably BS’ing anyways…..I hope. Backs is one of my all-time favorite Flames. It’d suck just as much as Johnny leaving if he got traded for me

Tkatchuk won't be thinking that way, his thinking would be, the team's best player is still with the team.

Well if Moe from Twitter says so then it must be true.
I’m on Twitter a lot and there’s a lot of people on there who like to pretend to have inside information. They almost always don’t.
