Tarasenko is worth more to the Blues as a contender than he is to a losing team that only wants to flip him at the deadline. If you pay St. Louis what they think is fair value for Tarasenko, you'll leave no room for profit at the other end of the deal.

What was the rumor in here about the Devils, they were considering moving one of Hischier or Bratt for Tkachuk at the draft, plus maybe something else?
Both guys are just 23, Hischier locked up long term already, is a 1C and is already producing pretty good. Bratt is an RFA who could be locked up long term, plus he's a Swede (lol) and actually led the Devils in scoring last season.
If you think either of these guys is still on the way up, might not be a bad way to go. I'd prefer the center myself.
NJD is looking for D, maybe you add Valimaki (who could use a change of scenery) and get something like this:
Tkachuk, Valimaki for Hischier, Holtz
??

Or St Louis could just wait 1 year and get him for nothing and keep any assets they want to keep.

Yeah, that's what everybody was saying about Philly/Gaudreau last year too.
Way too much uncertaintyto wait, if you have a chance at the player you want now, you go get him.

I can’t see the devils moving Hischier. Their rebuild starts with Hughes/Nico up the middle

I agree, that's why I surprised I read his name. Can't remember the source, it was posted in this thread I think.

Tarasenko is a 30 year old Russian pending UFA.
Barbashev is a 26 year old Russian pending UFA.
They’re for salary purposes only.
St Louis upgrades Tarasenko to Tkachuk and gets him for 8 years.
We get deadline bait. Both should be worth 1sts +.

Or else they don't. Why do you think Tkachuk is certain to sign in St. Louis? Why do you think the Blues would believe it was certain?
I believe Tkachuk is going to sign wherever the money is best. If he walks, the Blues are trading one year of Tarasenko + Barbashev for one year of Tkachuk, and throwing in other good assets. That's not a beneficial trade.

Would have 100% have worked for the Flyers if they had wanted Gaudreau.

Will they not have to move salary to fit Tkachuk?

I think the Flames should target Konecny in a trade. It seems like the Flyers have shopped him and would maybe like to cut some cap but seek a hockey trade.
Dube for Konecny? Add Valimaki?

Is that all Tarasenko is? A salary to be moved?

I'm skeptical Jersey would trade Hischier for Tkachuk let alone add. He's cheaper, younger, plays a more important position, and probably has similar production to Tkachuk moving forward.

There's a pretty good chance he would sign in St. Louis, because:
A) He already likes it there.
and
B) He could get big money on an 8-year deal right now coming off a 100-point season. If he waits a year, he could get injured or have a bad season.

I had posted it, hearing it from someone related to a NJ Devils sportswriter.
That being said, it was because they thought they had a legitimate shot to get Gaudreau and basically thought they would reunite 2/3 of our top line.

Tkachuk likes money.

If he can get bigger money somewhere else, I believe he will. I think the St. Louis Blues know that, which is why most of the discussion about trading Tkachuk to the Blues has come from fans, not from insiders.
If the Blues want Tkachuk badly enough to outbid every other team in free agency, they will get him. There's no point in sending out big assets before then.

What part of the GM saying we are not rebuilding do you not seem to get? So you want to trade Tkachuk for a couple of guys you hope you can turn into a couple late 1sts? Jesus.

If we’re not rebuilding, great.
Extend Tkachuk. Now. Not later, now. 8 x $9.76M.
Sign Klingberg.
Keep Lindholm in a year.
If we’re trading Tkachuk, we have to trade him for futures. Not to improve ‘this’ group.
What part of that don’t you get?

Because it's not like the contract would require signatures or anything. Just do it at the figure YOU see fit, without the agreement of EITHER party.
If that's how you think NHL GMs work, no wonder you're constantly disappointed by them.
