So you think Trump wins and every democracy will cease to exist as a democracy? I think that's a fairly spectacular reach, borne out of extreme fear, bordering on paranoia. The US certainly has a good chance to cease to be that, but every single democracy? Almost certainly not.

As they close in on power the need to keep to ambiguities and dog whistles diminishes. But it's nothing compared to how quickly things will unravel if they take power.

I listened to it while I was out prepping my yard for winter. Babbling idiot was a takeaway for sure. I also underestimated how long it would take me because I was out there for 3 hours. But another one was that it's Trumps side that seems arrogant and thinking it's in the bag right now. The Harris side I heard has like 1.5 billion in their war chest. So they can still pull it off.

I think the Rogan podcast surprisingly and this Nazi rally probably swung the election back to Harris.
Don’t care if you are a comedian. Having an entire act being a racist pos doesn’t sit well with many people.
Whoever is running his campaign must be on Harris payroll. This type of incompetence is nuts.

That's kind of what I mean. Trump supporters love it, and Trump feeds off that, not realizing that more people are getting put off and will end up voting for Harris. I hope so anyway.

Kamala held a big rally in Houston over the weekend. There are other races and I guess that they calculate that the national press coverage is beneficial.

And I would probably prefer them at that point
This should be an easy layup election for the GOP...the irony here is Trump being terrible is what keeps it close. Meanwhile Trumpers think he is some kinda great candidate.
His first presidential run was a disaster
He barely beat Hillary who nobody really likes (millions less votes to boot)
He lost to the Corpse of Joe Biden
He could very well lose to a late substitute incumbent Black/Indian women in a racist/sexist country in a time of record inflation
Trump is a bum, he sucks at everything...He inherited 400M NY real estate in the early 80s and has underperformed the market. SMRT businessman...derp

Holy crap, just saw some of the highlights of Trump's Nazi rally at MSG. Basically a murderer's row of reprehensible scumbags spewing all kinds of racism, misogyny, and ridiculous bulls***. One speaker described Puerto Rico as "a floating island of garbage".

Re-creating February 20, 1939.
The GOP isn't hiding who they are, they're embracing it. The hoods are off.

While I do think that people need to not think about it daily and that seems to be driving a lot of people's ramped up anxiety, I don't think it discounts the seriousness of what that would mean. Whether or not "democracy" actually falls in the US is a different thought experiment than whether or not that would be a REALLY bad thing. Does Trump win and if he does can/will he be able to create the type of system he wants? There are a whole lot of ifs/ands/buts even between those two states. He has to win first and foremost. Then there's a lot of steps with a lot of people in the way between that and full dead democracy.
That said, IF that were to occur, that would mean he would have actual loyal control of the greatest military in the history of the planet and we have the longest unprotected border in the world and 30% of the world's freshwater. It could get scary. But that first part about total military loyalty...I think that's honestly the biggest hurdle.
In conclusion. Hope Kamala wins and deal with the reality when it comes. Stop worrying about .5% poll moves and nonsense betting odds.

Has anyone, save maybe a Trump supporter, said Trump winning is nothing to be worried about? Given his severe mental impairments and his deranged thinking of course there's lots to be worried about. But these "end of western civilisation, end of democracy world wide" posts are mostly fear mongering. Yes, what happens to the US will be grim and the end of democracy there is absolutely on the table, but thinking a Trump win means the UK or France or India are just going to give up democracy is simply nonsensical.

Trump: I think with our little secret we are gonna do really well with the house, our little secret is having a big impact, he and I have a little secret, we will tell you what it is when the race is over.
This from trump yesterday at his Hitlerpalooza. Hes talking to SOTH johnson here, so no matter the votes or the EC result, pretty clear he is not just going to slink away. Probably some plan hatching about election certification by the House

Yeah they won’t certify. But it won’t be that simple. It’s going to get messy.
No one even talked about his conversation with Kim. He said they almost went to war with NK. He made fun of their nuclear arms.
These dictators are smart. They know going to war with the US is dumb. They just make the man baby feel special and control him like a puppet. He ends up thinking they are friends.

I do agree people need to relax and just wait for results. I don't think fear-mongering is the right word, as I don't think it's purposefully trying to stoke others. It's real anxiety and this, for better or worse, is where a lot of people choose to vent that stuff so that's fine.
I agree democracies wouldn't just fall world-wide, and it's not like US just becomes dictatorship overnight. But what it means for something like NATO and potential pushback against Russian expansion and middle-east issues and China/Taiwan, etc.... like that's all real stuff.
Whether or not having Harris vs Trump actually impacts/thwarts any of that is up for debate. And that's just foreign war policy, saying nothing of economic policy and the further exasperation of problems within the country (and North America overall). We can't pretend the US election/policy has no impact on us and that Canadians have no vested interest - and that it being run by an extremist idiot isn't a really bad thing.

A Trump victory would be immediately impactful globally. Trump could give up the Ukrainians to Russia without much outside interference. Withdrawal from NATO would be momentous, but it’s hard to imagine the braintrust of the U.S. military (a conservative group in the traditional sense) rolling over so easily.
Domestically, power in the U.S. is far more dispersed than we like to imagine. At the federal level, power is distributed beteween the executive, the senate, and congress. More importantly, state governments affects most people in their day-to-day lives far more than federal. Is Trump going to take over school boards and hospitals in California and New Jersey?
Then there’s business. Trump has some billionaires in his pocket. Many more are against him - Democrats continue to out-strip the Republicans in fundraising by a wide margin.
