And if you are a gay teacher you have to hide your sexuality
And if you are a women you have less rights
I'm sure rich white men who miss the 1960s do love it though
I vacation there myself but let's not pretend it's some utopia
And this is why many hate places with a lot of judgmental people like you. I was raised in Calgary but have lived adult years in D.C., Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas, and now Nashville. Florida has a lot to offer.
Education isn’t great there but if you are wealthy like hockey players or don’t have kids yet it’s a fantastic place to live and has a vibrant night life unlike most places. Also, have found people there much less judgmental or obsessed with race as you seem to be.
As someone who grew up in Calgary but moved after college to various places in southern USA, the summer in Calgary is as good as it gets. The southern heat is dreadful but that’s also off-season for hockey so many go back home. So being in warmer weather and near beaches is a very attractive thing. Plus, you aren’t recognized every single place you go even though there are still some very die hard fans in those markets, just a lower % of population.
The fall, winter, and spring in the south are incredible and it’s one of the reasons I haven’t made more of an effort to move back home to Calgary.
I am not trying to throw shade because I love my hometown and miss a lot of things about it. Just trying to provide some perspective for many who arent homegrown in calgary.

I've been to south Florida 8 or 9 times over the years, 1 week is nice, 2 weeks starts to get annoying and the one time I spent a month felt like torture. I guess I just hate heat and humidity because I feel the same way about Toronto in August.

I'm literally calling them out for anti gay laws and women's rights and you call that judgemental hah. Must be nice to be oblivious to these issues.
Anyway back on topic

Are you guys being serious? Literally millions of people have moved to Florida in the last 20 years. It’s booming. I bet there are more high-net worth (over $20 million) people living in the Miami area than in all of Canada.
You're not doing a great job selling me on it.
Why would I want to flock where all the people are flocking? I can hardly stand stripmalls around the Calgary outskirts on a busy day. Not having space and privacy detracts from my ability to enjoy things.
Loads of rich people being a selling point? Pretty neutral there. You want useful connections but the downside is the self absorbed kind.
If I'm rolling into town with tens of millions in pocket it would be worthwhile sure. I would partake in the nightlife, but again I can only stand doing so many things around loads of people.
A small beach town in Florida within commuting distance of the city would be much more up my alley. But I would miss landforms with elevaton pretty quickly.
