I have no idea how the summer is going to unfold in Flames land. Eff, I don't even know how I would proceed as GM.
Only thing I can think of at this point t is turning one or two of those UFA wingers into a center. Lindholm is amazing, Backlund is likely getting to that age where it hits the wall.
We need better immediate proven center depth.
Like I don't think Monahan is going anywhere, dudes gonna be a lifer I think. But I'd go get one just to cover the bases.
Yes we have 4 or 5 coming down the pipe but I just don't know if one of them is a top line production type.
Again, I don't really know how the Flames handle their business this year or how I would.

Easy to say, but who is trading a superstar for those two guys?
Please give me an example.
Let’s trade Monny and Lucic for draft picks too.

Obviously we include future picks, but Winnipeg might.
For example:
Bread
Circus
1st ‘23
2nd ‘23
For
Mark Scheifele. He wants out anyway.
Logan Stanley. Big, cheap RFA D.
How much more would you realistically need to add to that?

GOAT!

Scheifele's a pos that would kill our dressing room. Hard pass.

Evander Kane is a POS and he’s about to break the record for goals in a playoff.
Are we here to win or make friends?

He wants out anyway and we still need that big of a package? If he is as big a pos as reported or rumored, I'm not sure the team want him or add him.

I would offer the barn for Scheifele. He is exactly what we need.
2023 1st, Monahan, Zary (and maybe another small plus) would be my offer for 2 years of Scheifele at his cap hit.
Assuming Gaudreau and Tkachuk could be re-signed, a top 9 of:
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Scheifele - Toffoli
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Would be pretty damn good.

And let’s not confuse things - they didn’t lose because of a lack of centre depth. They lost because one player on the roster is able to create his own offense, and he’s a 5 ft 8 left winger.
A centre who can score from distance and score without Gaudreau is exactly what they need.

Oh, well if Boucher and Chelios are saying that, it's over, he is as good as gone! I am sure Gaudreau can't wait to go play with a team that needs a serious rebuild and is about as close to winning a Cup as the Coyotes. I am 99% sure he is staying, I am 100% sure he is not signing with the Flyers this off season. I have a better chance of winning Lottomax while being struck by lightning.

Crash and Bang Winger

Scheifele and Pionk for Tkachuk and Monohan, Gaudreau will sign elsewhere and I'm ok with that, his flyby on OT goal was the last straw for me, then go out with a whack of cash and sign a winger , Oilers won't be able to pay Kane what he wants offer him 5@7 million , and offer Forsberg a big contract new look for team and better imo

Monny is worth a negative first round pick. So you are offering Zary for him. The Jets could move Scheifele without taking back a negative player with a big cap hit.

You say you’d offer the barn, but all you offer is horse sh*t.

Scoring Winger
|
I love having Tkachuk on our team and it was entertaining watching him put up his crazy 100+ point season. But now that puts the Flames in a real tough spot. The dollars he will command on a long term will never live up to what he will produce for us when it matters in the playoffs. If he were a 7-8 million player that could work but a player that lands in the 9-10.5 mill range needs to be a guy that can drive plays and always be that threat. Chucky is a fun player but I don’t see him as that guy. Fresh thoughts magnified by a horrible performance in the last 4 games and most of the Dallas series.

They lost because of .850 goaltending...they scored more than enough goals

If they’d scored more than enough goals, they wouldn’t have lost in 5.
They don’t have the horses up front to trade chances with Edmonton, Colorado or Tampa, and if you can’t do that, you have no business calling yourself a contender.
Add a star player who can create without Johnny, then you can make sure one of Backlund or Lindholm is on the ice at all times in a shutdown capacity, against the opposing superstar who usually dummies us - McDavid, MacKinnon, it’s a type - and still have someone who’s a reliable threat to score.
Backlund needs to be the 3. Lindholm can be the guy who plays with Johnny, but the #2C should arguably (or inarguably, if possible) be better.
The complete mishandling of Bennett and the complete stalling of Monahan’s career have set this group so far back. Two top-6 picks and neither being key contributors for one reason or another is simply devastating.

Top line combined for just 2 points in 3 and 1/2 games... it was a problem. Lots of blame to go around. The whole team (outside of a handful of players) was lousy after it was 3-1 in game 2.
