The dude signed in Buffalo. Why wouldn’t Calgary had a shot?

We need one bigger faster and depensive C that can play against the elite Centers. I hope we can sign one today.

I think, Hall wants at least 7-7.5 million for longer deal. So he's going to wait other teams clear cap space and roster spot this season while earning $8 Million next 6 months until Buffalo out of playoff again.

I'm confused. One UFA tracker site lists RNH as available, but another says he's on the books through this upcoming season.

He expires 2021 right?

I think that the value of Gaudreau that other teams were willing to trade for was based on his most current year rather than is 2018-19 year.

There likely was not enough value in Gaudreau to trade him without bringing back cap space and a certain degree of risk.

There were 107 contracts signed since sept 1. The Flames had the #5 and #13 highest cap hits.

They ranked 5th in committing to cap space out of 31 team...10.5 M although the Jets passed them if Statsny's 6.5 M was considered a UFA signing rather than a trade jumping from 8.45 to 14.95 M

The Flames have 5.7 M to sign Kylington and Mangiapane. plus add 2 d-men Mackey and Petrovic and 3 other forwards as Magniapane makes 10

The Flames are basically right up against the cap.

The go forward plan would be to Gaudreau to play well and increase his value.

Gaudreau is recently quoted as saying he would like to stay in Calgary for a career so there really is no reason to think at this time that he wouldn’t extend if the Flames show that they are willing to continue to contend. Markstrom shows that we are willing to contend and spending to the cap is as well; I think we make a trade here soon that will allow us to add some veteran presence to the forward group.

Nah, we need to move in a different direction here.

The current make up at forward isn't effective in the big physical games, and our most diminutive and least physical high end forward seems like the best candidate to move to bring about that needed change.

Unless you're interested in more short playoff runs and frustration.

What a Richard.

Why is the Johnny's leaving as soon as possible narrative more plausible than he wants to stay narrative? Both are total speculation.

I think we need trade Hanifin for cap space. I truly believe Valimaki will outplay Hanifin this season and I also afraid Hanifin-Tanev pair may play worse than Hanifin-Harmonic pair. And sign a veteran D for minimum salary.

Ottawa still needs to hit the cap floor. I can imagine that they are taking all kinds of calls today about that.

If the Flames could find a way to move Ryan or wiggle out from underneath the Lucic contract it would change the complexion of this off season. Lucic fits the Ottawa M.O a player whose salary is less than his cap hit.

I know that both are a total long shot, but there is no way that BT is not having those conversations right now.

Hahahaha Wte man; one can hope can they not? More than anything I think it’s the smart choice to hang on to him now and sell at the deadline a player of his ilk versus giving up on him this off-season when prices are unprecedented during a pandemic that has never been seen before during modern era sports.

Shipping Lucic to Ottawa would allow for the option of a Toffoli / Hoffman / Dadonov signing easily.

As you say, he's easier for that team to swallow given the actual salary is less than the hit.

I'd be willing to package him with a 2nd and ask for a 7th or even FC in return.

Derek Ryan isn't really a long shot. Lucic no chance.

Derek Ryan is a great example of perseverance and could provide solid leadership for any rebuilding team.

Personally, I would move Ryan and a 2nd to maybe LA for someone like Akil Thomas.

LA are stacked in prospects and likely need some additional insulation for their team.

Ryan could provide a solid vet who could play on their PK and PP.

Thomas is still a few years away but could potentially become a solid middle six C/RW for us down the road.

Ryan has scored at a +30-point pace his last four straight seasons. That's right in the ballpark of 2nd/3rd line production. He is the very definition of a "middle-six forward."

I haven’t heard a word on Toffoli, seems like everyone’s plan B to Hall is Hoffman. Perhaps we could get Toffoli for a bit of a discount
