What about something like H. Lindholm+ rakkell for hanifin+ mangiapane?
I don’t like that deal because you’re getting older at forward and on defence, and you might not even be getting better at either position.

But I think Mangiapane is a top 6 forward.

If that trade was available I expect it would already have been made. Calgary gets a skilled winger who actually outscored Johnny last year and signed to a longer cheaper contract, plus get a very good prospect to boot. I’m not certain that even Konecny would be available for Johnny.

With all the attention this off season to cap and contracts, the value of players signed to decent contracts for a number of years has increased. That describes a Konecny to a T.

But it depends on how Philly values Johnny. Philly is trending quite nicely this season, if they simply stay the course, they will be fine.

I had the same thoughts myself, honestly. But I think that deal is at least semi-realistic. I guess it depends on whether Philly actually really wants Gaudreau as much as Flyers fans do or whether it’s just a fan thing.

I would also consider doing Gaudreau for Konecny straight up. That trade might allow the Flames to sign someone like Duclair.

Hope the holiday doesn't mean less signings happen today. I'm desperate for more news to talk about

I’d like to see if the Flames get someone like Jan Rutta on a cheap deal. Regardless if it’s Rutta or not, theres a good list of defenceman still available. I’d love the Flames to get cheap but effective RHD depth now rather than paying picks at the deadline.

I think the Flames could make a hockey trade involving Hanifin if they continue to be extremely impressed by Valimaki’s game in Finland. I don’t think there is really any chance Gaudreau moves out. It only really made sense to me if Hall joined the team.

In terms of free agency I doubt we see a player signed for more than $2M (except Mangipane).

I am disappointed in not getting Hall and not overly pleased with the Tanev deal but I am immensely pleased with the Markstrom signing. Obviously this offseason is incomplete but I am really happy we got a top 3/4 free agent and filled a huge need.

Could be some good cheap signings available. Lots of interesting players still unsigned and most teams are up against the cap. Could be some more cheap Barrie type one year deals

There are four notable, UFA, right handed defencemen left: Jan Rutta, Sami Vatanen, Travis Hamonic and Cody Ceci.

I’d like to see the Flames get one of those four on a cheap deal. My order of preference is 1a) Sami Vatanen, 1b) Jan Rutta, 3) Travis Hamonic and 4) Cody Ceci.

I'm stunned that as of today no changes have been made to the core forward group. That's been a clear issue for this team in two straight playoffs. Upgrading the goaltending and adding Tanev whole leaving the forward group intact looks like the plan is to win low scoring games next season.

He is, but a 5 or 6 at best in all likelihood. I like him, but the Flames can’t get married to guys like that.

Yeah but he's a defenseman. This team has too many forwards that don't play their best in the big games.

I think the absolute biggest issue of this team has been the need for timely goaltending and letting in groaners at the absolute worst time. Has our lack of scoring from the top 6 the past playoffs hurt us too? Undoubtedly but you can truly only win and go far in this league through exceptional goaltending and the Flames have gone out and done that this off-season while also replacing a top 4 D on the right side after losing two to free agency.

The Flames are looking to graduate some players on the D and our current forward group is crowded, I think the best way to go about augmenting the core is to land a guy like Perry who can help calm down this team in the tough moments of a series and finally help this core from getting in its own way. We have boatloads of talent up front and hopefully we can finally see it come together the right way.
