Both Vasek and Rebecca won their respective matches today and it was a pretty good day for a lot of Canadians playing in Calgary today.

Borna Coric might not be the same player he used to be (rose as high as #12 in the world a few years ago), but that's still a fine win earlier today by Gabriel.

That'll be big, He needs to automatically get into grand slams, which the top 100 usually does, barring too many PRs

Another young guy to keep an eye on is 18 year old American Learner Tien...He has been ripping it up on the Challenger Tour this year and has a current live ranking of #122. Not a big guy, but he has a pretty big game.

I wonder if any of these guys will be donating their prize money (or a least a portion of it) for this Saudi sport washing exercise to their favorite charity.

I typically attend, but the prices have become ridiculous when you consider you can see ATP 1000 level events for $50. Even looking at the upcoming Drommondville Challenger and you have tickets for $15-$30 into the weekend versus the $70-$100 in Calgary. What gives Calgary Challenger? You expect a larger city to have higher costs and somewhat higher ticket prices but 3-4x your other events?
It's unfortunate to see them take this from what was a family friendly, affordable event to something that is overpriced and not at all a value event in the city anymore. It's certainly not how you grow the game by having one community day to make the average price seem more reasonable.

Thanks for that info HF, I had no idea the tickets were quite that pricey.

You have to wonder if this is it for Vasek once he wraps Davis Cup. I can't imagine he has a huge desire to continue to play the challenger tour for another year when he's not even consistently making semifinals or beating players like Galarneau at this point.

Yeah, not to mention that his back issues continue to flare up and it has to be very frustrating for him continually having to deal with that wonky back. It would be the icing on the cake of his career if he were to part of another Canadian Davis Cup title run.

Great news to wake up to as Gabriel Diallo is into the semi-finals in Kazakhstan following a 3-6 6-3 6-4 win over Alejandro Tabilo. He has indeed cracked the top 100 as live rankings have him at #99

Meanwhile, Felix is about to lose to an over the hill RBA. Just a terrible service game to hand RBA the break late in set 3.
Edit: RBA returns the favor handing a break straight back to Felix. We play on with Felix serving at 4-5 in set 3.

Felix lucky to get to a 3rd set tie-break. Can he pull this match out?
Edit: If you're in a slump, FAA is your slump buster. Just not even close to being good enough today. The announcers saying it was a high quality match, what match were they watching, Felix was hitting the ball all over the place today.

Unbelievable what's happened to both Felix and Dennis since showing so much promise as teenagers. Shapo's career is almost over and Felix is settling into a top 100 type of journeyman player. It's a bit of a cruel sport but at the same time Felix has flatlined the past two years and for whatever reason is just fine sticking with the same coach for the past 7 years that's taken him as far as he can go. To be the best you have to want it badly and make difficult decisions along the way. It's pretty clear Felix can't or won't make those decisions and is comfortable where he's at as this isn't a minor slump as it's been two years of his prime where he's struggled.

I think Frank Dancevic has a tough decision on his hands for the upcoming Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. My guess is that he likely sticks with Felix as his number 1 guy for singles, but based on current form, why not go with Gabriel as your number 2 guy?
Edit: Sorry, my bad, I forgot that Felix is not playing Davis Cup, Milos is taking his place. Gabriel as no 1 then?

Meanwhile, 39 year old Stan Wawrinka turns back the clock and sends Bweh packing in Stockholm 7-6 7-6. The older guys are feasting today.

Amazing performance by Diallo. His growth the last 2 years has been impressive to say the least. Welcome to the top 100 Gabriel!
