Gotta think Nurse is their top choice and he seems to have considerable upside as a potential franchise dman.

Sane, Rational thinking folks think so. But this is K-Lowe and the Funky Bunch we're talking about. They'll take whoever The Score has at their spot before putting any further thought into drafting.

Chicago will depend on if they manage to clinch the presidents trophy tomorrow. The STL is fighting for home ICE so it's reasonably certain they will be playing to win despite clinching.

If they continue drafting/acquiring talent as they have lately they'll just take the most skilled guy regardless of size.
But yeah, you'd think Nurse would be a great piece for them. Or Monahan and then they could move Gagner.

I think the Oilers take Nichushkin or Monahan.
That's fine with me. My concern is who the 5th place team takes.

I bet the oilers trade the pick unless they win the draft.

No way in hell they take a Russian with two years left on his KHL deal. A team like Carolina or Tampa can take the risk on him, a team like Edmonton can't. They have to be after Nurse or Monahan. But i have a feeling a big name defenseman will be traded to Edmonton for their pick.

That's my guess also. It's either they will trade their pick or trade Yakopov.

I could see the Oilers trading it too but then again, if Nurse is on the board when they pick, he's pretty much exactly what they need, big fast and tough on the blueline. Unless they are getting Weber back or someone of that quality, I don't know why they move it then - Nurse is better than any dman in last year's draft IMO.
If they were smart they'd move Yakupov. I think he's the worst out of their 1st overalls and his value is still high. Going to end up being a 30 goal man who is minus -15 every year or a secondary scorer on a stacked team.

If the Flames cannot get Barkov, I really hope they go after Lindholm. Probably the only player outside of the top four that are close to NHL ready.

Giordano is a decently large name. Bigger than Suter or Weber. Not as big as Bouwmeester or Petrangelo, but still fairly long.

Preds can't trade Weber until July 24 since they have to wait a full year before trading him because of the offer sheet.

Why the hell should a team(ours) give a flying #### if a prospect is NHL ready or not? That should be the last thing this franchise should be judging players on right now IMO.

Perhaps NSH and EDM strike a gentleman's deal where EDM uses the pick on the player NSH wants... Then trade the player to NSH as part of a package for Weber once the trade is allowed.

Well I for one don't want five years of suckitude and if one of these players can aid in accelerating the re-build then yes, it should be one point of many that the organization will consider (and certainly not last the of them). Do you think Murray Edwards wants five more years of missing the playoffs? Do you think Feaster or anyone else wants to miss the payoffs for five more years? Do the fans? Answer to all is no.
Of course a team is going to take a prospects readiness to play at the NHL level into consideration. The faster these young hockey players make an impact on the NHL roster the better. That being said they shouldn't rush them if they aren't ready yet either.

It's not like you sacrifice high-end skill for how NHL ready a guy is. If he's being described as NHL ready that's a compliment to his skillset and physical maturity

I would love it if somebody made a deal like that with the Oil, only to back out after they make the oil draft a horrible player.
This happens a lot in the nba, but I've never heard of if in the NHL.
